Deleting your account

You can delete your FirstCinema account yourself, at any time, and you do not need this page to do it. This is the explanation of what happens when you do, for anyone who wants to read it first or who has already removed the app.

Where the control is

On the website, in Settings under Account. In the mobile app, in Settings under the same heading. Both ask you to type your username to confirm, and both do exactly the same thing. There is no way to delete an account from this page, on purpose: an account is deleted by the person signed into it.

What happens, in two stages

The moment you confirm, your account is blanked and signed out everywhere. Your username is replaced with a placeholder, and your display name, bio, avatar, banner, location and website come off every page. Nothing is destroyed yet. For thirty days, signing back in restores all of it and cancels the deletion. After thirty days the personal data is destroyed and there is no way back.

What stays, with no name on it

Your reviews, lists, comments and the likes you left on other people's work remain on the site, with nothing on them that says who wrote them. This is the one thing deletion does not remove and it is deliberate: other members' replies and saved lists are built on that content, and taking it away would silently rewrite their pages. Deletion also cannot reach copies other people made. A list somebody copied is theirs from that point, and quoted text in someone else's comment stays where they wrote it.

If you cannot sign in

Write to us at the address on the contact page from the email address on the account, and we will delete it for you. This is the route if you have lost access, and it is the route if you removed the app and would rather not install it again.
