Who we are
FirstCinema is a service for logging, rating and reviewing films, and for building and sharing lists of them. References to "we" and "us" mean the operators of FirstCinema; "you" means the person using it.
By creating an account or using the site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service.
Your account
You need an account to rate, review, keep a diary, build lists or receive recommendations. Browsing the catalogue, reading reviews and opening public lists do not require one.
You must be at least 13 years old to hold an account. If the law where you live sets a higher age for consenting to online services on your own, that age applies to you instead.
You are responsible for what happens under your account, including keeping your password to yourself. Tell us promptly if you believe someone else has access to it.
One person, one account. Accounts are not transferable, and you may not sell or rent yours.
What you post
Your reviews, lists, list descriptions, tags, profile text and avatar are yours. You keep ownership of them.
By posting them you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and distribute that content on FirstCinema, for as long as you choose to keep it there. This licence exists so we can show your review to other members and include your list in the pages that list lists, and nothing more. It ends when you delete the content, except for copies already made in backups, which age out on the ordinary backup schedule.
You confirm that what you post is yours to post, and that publishing it does not infringe anyone else's rights.
What you may not do
- Post content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, threatening, or that sexualises minors.
- Post sexual imagery, nudity, or graphic violence, in a review, a list, a tag, an avatar or a banner. Writing about a film that contains any of it is what this site is for; publishing the material itself, or describing it gratuitously where nobody chose to see it, is not.
- Impersonate another person, or misrepresent your association with anyone.
- Post other people's private information.
- Upload malware, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service, other accounts or the systems behind them.
- Scrape, crawl or bulk-download the site beyond ordinary personal use, or use automated means to create accounts, ratings or reviews.
- Manipulate ratings, likes or recommendations, including by coordinating with others or by operating multiple accounts.
- Use the service to advertise, or to distribute links to pirated copies of films.
Moderation
We may hide or remove content that breaks these terms, and may suspend or close accounts that do so repeatedly or seriously. Hidden content leaves every public surface of the site but is not immediately destroyed, so that a moderation decision can be reviewed or reversed.
Where we can, we will tell you what was removed and why. We will not always be able to give notice in advance, because an account being used to attack the service or its members may be suspended first.
If you think we got a moderation decision wrong, write to us and we will look at it again.
Film data and attribution
Film metadata, posters and backdrops come from The Movie Database (TMDB). This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. Rating and vote-count data attributed to IMDb comes from IMDb's published datasets and belongs to IMDb.
Those materials remain the property of their respective owners and are used here under the terms those owners set. Your licence to use them is the licence they grant, not one we can extend.
FirstCinema does not host, stream or link to films. Where the site shows what is playing in cinemas, that is listing information, not an offer to supply anything.
The catalogue
We carry films that meet a notability threshold rather than everything that has ever been released, so shorts, festival titles and some older releases are not in the catalogue. You can ask us to add a film, and we will look at every request, but we do not promise to add any particular one.
Metadata is imported from third parties and is sometimes wrong. We correct what we can when it is reported.
Changing and ending the service
We may add, change or remove features. If we make a change that materially reduces what the service does for you, we will give notice where it is reasonable to do so.
You may close your account at any time, from account settings on the website or in the app. It happens in two stages, and you have thirty days to change your mind by signing back in. If you cannot reach your account, write to us at the address on our contact page and we will do it for you. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what deletion destroys and what it leaves behind with no name attached.
We may close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if we stop operating the service.
No warranty
FirstCinema is provided as it is. We do not promise that it will be available without interruption, that it will be free of errors, or that the recommendations it makes will suit you. Nothing on the site is professional advice of any kind.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profits, or for loss of data beyond what our ordinary backups hold.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
If you are a consumer, you keep every right your local consumer law gives you, and nothing here reduces those rights.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page and, for changes that affect your rights, tell account holders by email or in the product before the change takes effect.
Continuing to use FirstCinema after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, close your account.
