Overview

A poetic imagining of the circumstances leading to the death of Yazdgerd III, the last of the Sassanid kings of Iran. His death in 651, during the Arab invasions that brought Islam to this Zoroastrian realm, remains mysterious: his corpse is discovered in a mill, but the cause of death—and the whereabouts of his remains—are unknown.

How It Feels

Read from this film's synopsis, keywords and credits, and used to work out what it sits beside.

A slow, meditative poem of a film that traces the final days of a doomed empire through the fragmented mystery of one man's death. It moves at the pace of loss itself, asking difficult questions about faith, sovereignty, and who gets to write the story of the vanquished.
