Overview

Sam’s questions about mortality and death are ignited when he comes across a deer carcass on a family backpacking trip. These questions become more pertinent when Sam’s dad receives a phone call about a death in the family, which he withholds from telling the kids as he sits with his own grief. Sam’s observation of the natural elements, his relationship with his siblings, and his own introspection culminate around the campfire on the last night of the trip, when Dad breaks the news of their Grandma’s death.
