Echo of the Recess

Overview

Xu Xiao, a Senior Two student from an impoverished family, always wears dust-streaked clothes. She suffers prolonged ostracism and vicious sneers led by classmate Zhou Qing and her gang. Her lunch tray is publicly knocked over, and she is subjected to humiliating torment in a rainy alley. Her only friend Su Meng keeps her distance, terrified of being implicated. When Xu Xiao seeks help from her head teacher, she only gets perfunctory, dismissive words. Her mother works nonstop to sustain the family, too swamped to detect the despair buried deep in her daughter’s heart. Abandoned by everyone, Xu Xiao has nowhere to seek solace.
