Overview

This experimental browser-based film investigates the networked afterlives of ethnographic photographs from the 19th-century colonial publication 'The People of India' as they circulate through the New York Public Library’s digital archive. Through performative interventions and acts of Electronic Civil Disobedience that corrupt the archive’s HTML code, the artist transforms the website itself into a site of protest.

Read from this film's synopsis, keywords and credits, and used to work out what it sits beside.

A confrontational digital artwork that weaponizes the archive itself to interrogate colonial violence and the exploitation embedded in digitization. It's a 10-minute act of resistance that unfolds in real time as code breaks and meaning ruptures.
