With a slew of body horror films coming out within the past few years (The Substance, Grafted, Shell, and Thinestra), Slanted takes a different approach. Instead of weight-related issues, this one deals with race, and it's an interesting look at how that and other factors, including social media, affect people who want to live in a different skin.
Both Mckenna Grace and Shirley Chen gave great performances. The transformations, from-to and to-from, were fantastic, and each character showcased their acceptance as they "climbed the ladder", but also their respective downfalls.
Slanted is a must-watch. With so many young people living vicariously through others online, an unhealthy obsession for most, I look forward to seeing more films this.
