Generally, I'm not a fan of vampire films. However, there are two exceptions: <I>The Lost Boys</i> and <I>Near Dark</i>, two films both released in 1987. So, why these two, especially <I>The Lost Boys</i>?
First, <I>The Lost Boys</i> exhibits everything perfect about an 80s horror film. The soundtrack, cast (both Corey Feldman and Corey Haim were two of the most popular actors during this period), setting and story, when pieced together, results in pure perfection.
Unlike <I>Near Dark</i>, the gore and violence here is minimal and not required. We're focused on Jason Patric's "Michael", whose change from human-to-vampire form affects those around him, a normal guy who falls in love with a girl that's embedded in a vampire clique. She's different and sort of standoffish to what they represent, and leads "Michael" to be a better person (vampire). Of course, this only leads to "Michael" endangering those who surround him. What's unleashed is some of the best fight scenes, one-liners, and, overall, endings to close an already incredible film.
If you are ever given the chance to see <I>The Lost Boys</i> on the big or small screen, do not hesitate: Take the bite!
