Putting aside the “first zombie film” history of this for a moment, what most surprised me is how experimental and fluid the camera was throughout most of the film.
When you think of the rather static nature of 31s Dracula and Frankenstein, the camera work here is positively dynamic with some very creative framing and movement.
The story itself IS pretty good, as is the acting. Lugosi’s odd inflection works well here.
