seriously tho, exactly a film that needs to exist as a representation of the frustrating family existence within communication systems and how that can cause for trauma, hatred, loathing and pent up frustration that all will eventually burst one day. liv ullman and ingrid bergman show that perfectly in their performances as the screams of ullman echo through the house and its interior and as tears pour out of their eyeballs.
i think art that portrays the damaged and broken structure of parental figures is important but the film also displays a level of empathy that is needed for such a discussion. ingmar bergman really is cinema's greatest nazi.
