its last shot is pretty much indicative of the whole film as antonio and his son dissapear into the crowd, its not subtle yet it is effective.
bicycle thieves is a film about 1940s italy shrouded in darkniss by a system that punishes whoever it can yet sometimes can reward others at the cost of others, creating a deep cycle of fake rewards that can give individuals dopamines to do it again while others get caught and get publically shamed. as anontio's paranoia creeps in, he increasingely becomes fixated on getting his bike which ultimately leads to his final act.
