maybe im stretching but a very 2000s look at fascism where "the caller" gets to call the shots because stu has done bad things but he screams Authoritarianism in his voice and tone.
and while predictable for era, the caller lives which signifies the growing and staying fascism in america. stu is at mercy but he's stripped of his individuality and free will for most of the runtime before actively taking it back by confessing to his wife that he cheated for himself (wether we know he did is up for debate)
joel schumacher's direction is very of the time and does so much and is so full of style which doesn't always work but he's able to create suspends in mostly 1 location. forest whitaker gives a decent performance, obviously kiefer sutherland and collin ferrel are the best ones because they are given most of the material but everyone else is decent to good with so little. thank god jared letto's single scene got cut lol. phone booth could be a masterpiece BUT it doesn't go full on with anything, the cops being here adds nothing except that obviously they need to be there, they are cops nut they don't add to the themes.
