I much prefer Brigsby Bear, the awkwardly charming and wholesome version of this story. Highly recommend Brigsby Bear if you like or don't like Dogtooth.
Back to Dogtooth. I read the back of the case, so I wasn't unprepared for the plot, but I *was* unprepared for two specific things:
1. The cat scene, which I hated so much
2. The SOUND of the thuds of the VHS scene and the VCR scene, which made me actually flinch and recoil with each strike
Do I think Dogtooth is good? Yes. Will I ever watch it again? Probably not. It can go in the file with Requiem for a Dream, Funny Games, Hard Candy, and I'm not sure what else right now but there are others.
