I thought there would be more umbrellas, including umbrella choreography.
Sometimes when I watch a Wes Anderson movie, I get sort of hypnotized. The beauty of the visuals and the non-stop melody of the dialogue both warrant full attention, so my eyes and ears go to battle, and my eyes win. I'm taking in the sets and colors and imagery, thinking about how stunning it is, and then I realize my ears have stopped processing, and I'm missing the plot.
That is very much my experience with The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. The colors! THE COLORS! The non-stop singing kept becoming white noise while I absorbed the colors. I had to rewind so many times. This is not a criticism of the movie. This is just some stuff about me. 🙂
Not that into Guy though honestly, and I loved the kids' names.
