As a fan of Travis Stevens' (@travisstevens) work, especially his previous effort <i><a href="https://boxd.it/tyte" rel="nofollow">Jakob's Wife</a></i>, I was excited to learn that he was directing <i>A Wounded Fawn</i> and assembled a fantastic cast consisting of Josh Ruben (@joshruben), Sarah Lind, and Malin Barr, among others.

Aside from the regular news coverage and a <b><a href="http://www.letterboxd.com/shudder" rel="nofollow">Shudder</a></b> streaming announcement, I wanted to go into this film without any knowledge/spoilers of the film, and then have it all unravel before me during the world premiere at the <b>Tribeca Film Festival</b>. However, I caved in, and found the plot summary to be both amazing <b>and</b> mysterious.

<blockquote><i>A local museum curator who is dipping her toe back into the dating pool is targeted by a charming serial killer. When a fateful romantic getaway between the two becomes a tense game of cat and mouse, both must confront the madness within him.</i></blockquote>The film's gritty (not meant in a bad way), funny, and scary, and delivered everything I like in a horror film. The acting and dialog were well-aligned (I'm critical about how actors deliver/speak, and felt that the conversations and actions synced very well while the story developed. Plus, it builds a sense of either comfort or tension between characters.). I also liked the fact that it was shot on 16mm!

The audience reacted very well to the film, finding themselves laughing at certain scenes (which was the intention) while also jumping out of their seats at others. Travis' comments afterward about the audience's reactions stated that he expected just that (and then some).

The chemistry between Josh Ruben and Sarah Lind worked well on so many levels. He proved that he can be charming and funny while also demonstrating the ability to switch personalities in the blink of an eye. [<b>SPOILER</b>] During one scene, he reminded me of Javier Bardem's character, Anton Chigurh, in <i>No Country For Old Men</i>, when he strangled the policeman. [/<b>SPOILER</b>].

Sarah's character, innocent and wanting to move on from previous events in her life, was well-portrayed, and her continued involvement throughout the film was applause-worthy!

In addition to the above, a round of applause to the costume and set designers.

Overall, I really enjoyed this film, and can't wait for everyone to experience it on @Shudder!
