A psychologically complex drama about a theatre director whose past haunts her as she resurrects a controversial opera, collapsing the boundary between performance and personal unraveling. The film moves inward, tracking how trauma bleeds into creative work and intimate relationships.

The poster makes Seven Veils look like a horror film. It is not. It is an artsy drama.

I loved Seven Veils. Atom Egoyan was remounting 'Salome' while making this film about Amanda Seyfried's character remounting 'Salome', so the opera singers, sets, props, orchestra, etc are all the same as the actual opera production that was being directed simultaneously. I think that's very cool.

There are a bunch of scenes with parts of the opera being depicted using shadows and silhouettes, and they are beautiful.

There is an unusual amount of time spent on the prop master making the head. I don't really know what that's all about. Those scenes feel like a mockumentary, and it's a noticable vibe shift. It didn't bother me, but it was odd.

Amanda Seyfried is perfect, as always, and as a bonus she is reunited here with Douglas Smith who played her brother on Big Love.
