Almost 50 years after the release of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Netflix threw a ton of money (~$20 million, according to IMDb) into this project (sequel) and allowed for anything to go (or so we're told).

Leatherface is back. Like Michael Myers in the new Halloween films, we don’t get a direct look at old man Leatherface sans mask, only a strong look at his bulky, quiet presence. He's been hiding out in Harlow, TX since the events of the 1974 classic, doing his thing as a member of a local orphanage. That is until a group of young people basically bought the entire beat-up town in hopes of restoring it and turning it into a go-to destination. This group has no other real backstory except for two sisters, one who helped put together this town's restoration and the other a survivor of a school shooting. It's explained in very short detail as to why this place was chosen, but you'd forget about it until writing a review like this (Still unnecessary). They become the two main characters as their colleagues/friends/whatever begin to get picked off one by one and, eventually, in one swoosh. It's a bloodbath and it's beautiful.

So, why the 3 out of 5 star review? I found the characters to be both underdeveloped and quite annoying, but there was a somewhat good story behind Leatherface's disappearance and sudden resurgence (No spoilers here). This man has a grudge and is not letting anyone get in his way, including a previous victim who wants both closure and revenge. However, it doesn't go quite as planned. The kills were brutal, which is what I was expecting. Also, Bulgaria is the perfect setting for a Texas-like shoot. Who knew?
