The Drama

early on the editing is fantastic and the score is great but, at least for those two elements, they get weaker by time but neccesarily bad, my main issue with the score is that it mostly just made the same (good) melody over and over and over again which, its good but especially in the 3rd act, it lessens the things happening on screen.

the editing is more so that, i loved what raymond lee and borgli did early on, sure its frantic but it never loses itself but then later on its not as sturdy as in its first 30 min. the drama is generally about being a warning sign for the lack of empathy in modern society and our comprehension of the change in the individual person and if that is real or not. i think thats well handled at a lot of points but what i dislike about it which, honestly, is way better in dream scenario is its "quirky" akward moments which were not funny at all. i just don't think the writing but also tone is there to support it. its not something i immidiately noticed but once it gets repeated, the same type of joke becomes obvious.

the performances of both pattinson and zendaya elevate the film and its conflict very much so. but what i think this film misses is a clearer picture because while inherentely you as a person don't need to have a bigger picture of someones life, but it should be clear so when the world and experiences feel so little it feels weird, thats why celebrities and opologies don't work mostly imo because we only ever get bits and pieces and to fully understand one as a person but also an opology, it has be clear and sadly you can't always or almost never have that in this case. so when 1 out of the 2 main characters we only ever get cookie crumb's off for past mistakes. there is something, a need to be seen, criticism of online spaces and encouragement of that and the glorification within early stages of life of something as terrifying as school shooting and how deppresion works within that but its all just stuck in a few lines of dialogue and a few tiny scenes so the picture is not clear.

maybe thats part of it all but imo, it kinda goes against the whole idea of the film. empathy is something we should have more but what we also should have is a lengthy explanation and to extend, the film displays that with the character of rachel but she's not in any way a fully formed character and just kinda 1 dimensional look on the outraged half that would respond like her.

the performances are fantastic and i really like the cinematography having such a....LOOK to it like dream scenario but i also think dream scenario honestly invites more discussion, i don't think within that film, not one person is explicitely the only one accountable but a whole system that kicks into gear but it also does look at cancel culture and that surrounding it differentely but also similaire in a lot of aspects.
the drama, not bad, almost good but its also weirdly inconsistent the more i think about it.

The Drama concludes the Yikes Marriage trilogy (+ Materialists & Die My Love) and kicks off the year of Zendaya + Robert Pattinson (she gets top billing).

Very solid dark comedy, and I managed to go in unspoiled. I never knew where it was going, and I dig Robert Pattinson in those glasses.
