Come for the Late Night with the Devil 70s TV show vibes, stay for the examination of misogyny and the dangers of being a woman. What are girls for?
The true story is a lot more horrifying and robust, but I like that this centered on the woman from The Dating Show instead, with flashes to some of the other women. A drama detailing the full extent of Alcala's crimes would be just endlessly devastating and brutal to watch. It's still devastating and brutal, but the shift in subject separates it from some of the other serial killer projects (looking at you, Ryan Murphy). It never becomes torture porn, not even a bit.
