Overview

Based on Frank Miller's graphic novel, "300" is very loosely based the 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae, where the King of Sparta led his army against the advancing Persians; the battle is said to have inspired all of Greece to band together against the Persians, and helped usher in the world's first democracy.

How It Feels

Read from this film's synopsis, keywords and credits, and used to work out what it sits beside.

An operatic surge of stylized violence and masculine swagger, 300 is less interested in historical accuracy than in the sensation of watching outnumbered warriors stand their ground with mythic grandeur.

Lena Headey is captivating, and the cinematography captures the style of comic book panels perfectly.

I didn't like this as much as I used to. It was pretty original for an over-the-top action movie when it released, and now it just feels so... gratuitous.
