a more recent work of kurosawa thats a lot more divisive and to an extend i get it. for most and even to people who love his films, a lot of his direction is left in ambiguity and on top of that before we vanish is the inverse of kurosawa's general tone throughout his career.
kurosawa's script still envokes a horrifying mundanity all the while a quiet and unnoticed take over of the world is happening right before our eyes but what we also see is discovery of love and compassion.
his actors remain the same like almost in every other kurosawa film for the majority of the film, gloomy, a lack of energy and very mundane but thats by design but that allong with so many other things create juxtaposition with the general story.to me, the film is about the fact that love can be anywhere no matter what state a place is in and if maybe other species out there have a better connection or understanding too love.

Narumi is on bad terms with her husband, Shinji, when, one day, Shinji goes missing. He comes back a couple of days later, but he seems like a totally different person, and he is now gentle and tender. He goes for a walk every day. Meanwhile, journalist Sakurai covers the story of a family that was brutally murdered, when an unexplained phenomenon takes place. Shinji Kase tells his wife that he came to Earth to invade.
