Black Swan

Natalie Portland gives a great performance and the themes of abuse and perfectionism in industries like this are very apparant.
Its a surrealist nightmarish film and while i don't really think oronofsky's kind is always good or all that special, it still tries its best to leave a lasting impact on the viewer.
Personally i just don't really care for anything else here, the film looks good but is shot in an uninteresting way.

Its impossible to not mention perfect blue while reviewing this film, they are very similaire but just different in their approach and imo the horror in black swan is not that interesting at all most of the time.
Its clear in what it wants to say but it doesn't do that in interesting ways, it just feels like teens first surrealist film.

I hadn't seen this since it came out, and I hadn't thought about it since then either. For all the acclaim, it doesn't seem to have made a lasting impression.

It is immediately clear that Natalie Portman strenuously prepared for this role, both the dancing and her actual frame. It is a bit jarring when she's already so petite. It sets the tone that Nina is pushing herself to the limit physically while also paying a mental toll. It's a stark contrast with Mila Kunis's easy, breezy, effortlessly cool Lily.

It's a drama, it's a thriller, and sometimes I blocked my view with my hand in the moments that it felt like horror. We join Nina on her spiral, her descent into madness. It's an impressive, high quality journey that everyone should go on once. For me, once is probably enough.
