If someone invites me to their house without telling me they have a free roaming chimpanzee, we are NOT FRIENDS.

I can't decide what to rate this, because I am so stunned at how gory it was. This is the most I've closed my eyes in the movie theater in years. I thought it would be kind of like The Monkey, not because there's a chimp, more of a horror/comedy balance, but no! It's gross like Hostel with the eyeball part! It's SO GROSS.

Upon first introduction, "Ben" (the chimp) is playful and smart, but we learn that all perfect things must come to an end when Ben is infected by rabies, and then becomes a vicious monster hellbent on killing anything in his path.

The story and setting are simple, granting us visual access to a beautiful home in Hawaii, where Ben has his own personal space next to the family home. While he communicates through an iPad-like device, he also knows sign language.... just like "Amy" from 1995's <I>Congo</i>. While "Amy" looked like a kid in a costume (Spoiler: <A HREF="https://letterboxd.com/actor/misty-rosas/">It was</A>), <A HREF="https://letterboxd.com/actor/miguel-hernando-torres-umba/">the actor</A> who performed as "Ben" did a mighty fine job at providing a loveable-turned-vicious creature that provided some fantastic kills throughout. There were no side stories or random characters that came and went. That was all taken care of at the beginning so that the remaining hour-plus of the film can be devoted to the thrills and kills, which it properly delivered.
