chantal akerman's 1978 film is slow, shot with a lot of long takes and the longer the scenes go on, the more we but anna feel detached from this world but people as well.

i've encountered it many times myself, people change and maybe not in the best ways that fit who you are at the current time. i've felt that detachment from both people around me but reality as well sometimes.
most of who i know or knew are either living their own lives or still see me as something im not. people i knew from middle and elementary school peeking at my tiktok account makes me especially detached from the modern generation of dutch teens and chilren but also makes me kinda furious. maybe if i knew where their hatred or mockery came from, i would understand but i think i don't wanna know.

anna feels exactly that way, detached from modern society and reality which accumilates into a state of loneliness.
