pretty good in its action and suspense.
its characters are smart and slick which creates some great scenes but its also not much else besides just good which is better then not being good but the concept is genius yet not used to its full potential.

the message is not nuanced or has any depth to it.
its just in your face and tells you the world is run by stupid people but even if thats true, that doesn't make your movie any good.leonardo decaprio is kinda annoying in this and i felt nothing for no one in this. in order for a message in a film to come over well is for its character to be the ones to deliver it by being interesting but there is nothing, the film would rather have simple black and white characters then showing us what would actually happened, trump may not be the smartest man alive(the movie so clearly has a female trump or politician idc) but there is depth to his action and a clear reasoning behind his awful action then just being dumb as fuck.
this movie is just doom slop.the editing is mediocre asf, what was the reasoning behind some of these cuts? also tyler perry belongs in this movie.
im not taking anyone seriously who likes this movie. opinions are opinions but i will laugh at you.
Still good but mostly more straightforward then the first and second film
pretty much a showcase of how disposable cops are to other cops.
its very good at showing ko chow's life before it all crumbles and chow yun-fat gives another great performance. every character has a reason for acting the way they do and the way ko chow blends in and connects with the thieves its genuinely sweet even when you know it won't last long.
used to be one of my favorite films after i watched it for the first time almost 2 years ago but after rewatching it, there are a lot more flaws to it.
while its mystery is great, its characters are basically just backdrops for it and are shallow at best. jake gyellenhaal is usually great but his performance is so whatever and feels like his performance in nightcrawler but so much worse.
mark ruffalo is fine but half of his line delivery sounds so fucking weird.its cinematography is pretty good and i genuinely think its a well paced film with a intrigueing mystery but thats all it is, it knows to not fill in the blanks and just tell what everyone knows which is almost nothing but by being so close to reality, it focuses more on recounting those events then actually giving us great characters with depth allong that mystery.
its exploration on obsession is as deep as a puddle because we don't know this person at all, what part of him itches to get answers?
or is he just suppose to be a boring stand in for the audience?
upon rewatch my opinion hasn't changed much, its still really good but it could be more polished and in a sense i liked how the bone temple was a lot more focused where in this, all of its ideas just lay on the floor for the film to randomly pick up.
but i also think some of the strenghts i mentioned in my bone temple review but didn't mention in my first review for THIS film is that the film also portrays a very humanistic idea of how the infectious actually works.
its views on death and how its terrifying and sad, we should also keep moving forward and cherish the memories we have of the people we have lost near and dear to our hearts.danny boyle directs most of the film really great but also i think some of the editing and technique's he used kinda baffles me because they are cool but also really jarring when your in the middle of an action scene and the film decides to do a 360 spin around an infected like a mini video game cutscene.
really dissapointed that i didn't really like this, its action is great but the story becomes increasingly uninteresting the longer it goes on.

i've not seen many wong kar wai films, i have only seen happy together which i thought was really good so im sad to report that i didn't like wong kar wai's debute film.
its characters and his style feel refined yet the writing doesn't.
his characters act like classic wong kar wai characters(from what i know) and the plot also does but both of those things feel undercooked.
slow in the beginning but the longer it goes on the better the film gets in both its characters and asburdity.
maybe chinese people really are some of the coolest motherfuckers around.
Smaller in its scope but 28 years later the bone temple sinks its teeth in its characters and the way they think what being human means.
Ian Nelson seeks the humanity in the infected while sir lord jimmy sees the infected as a wicked doom created by Satan and exploits that to manipulate and murder people.
Spike takes a backseat but I think it makes up for that since jack o connel and Ralph fiennes give great performances and both of them show humanity just in different ways and the ways they differ morally.I don't know much about the real Jimmy Crystal besides the fact he was and still definitly is a sex offender.
In a way spike is manipulated and groomed but so are the others by sir jimmy crystal to entertain is view of the current world.
Dr ian kelson doesn't view the infected as something uncureable or not human because they are.
They are human, the film uses that compassion to let us connect with Samson, we see some of his memories and in that way the film tells us that we are so soon with giving up on a lot of our fellow people and that even if you think some people aren't worth saving, they in fact are because they have memories and emotions.Nia decosta directs the film beautifully even if i preffer what Danny boyle did but the cinematography is still great and the performance all around the board are great.
Im glad my first theater experience of the year wasn't fucking Greenland 2.
Simply just magnificent to witness action history unfold and understand why this one changed so much.
