I was a huge fan of the Encyclopedia Brown books as a kid, and obviously love Adam Brody, so I was biased in favor of this even before pressing play.
It does get dark. The case is a murder, but then it gets darker. I didn't expect it, but I do think it works and that it was the right direction for the film. It finds a very solid balance between dark comedy and noir/mystery.
After hearing about this film for some time listening to the Classic Horrors Club podcast, I finally decided to give it a watch.
Wow! Really, really good! Not only is Karloff amazing, the film is fantastic too. Very dark, but wonderfully acted directed.
Maturity is realizing Katniss should have always picked Peeta even though she probably gets the ick from saving his life every five minutes.
When Snoopy helps Charlie Brown make Thanksgiving dinner, he serves toast, popcorn, pretzels, jelly beans, and ice cream. (Not judging. I'm kind of into it.)
Then Charlie LEAVES HIM BEHIND to go to his grandma's for a "real dinner" -- RUDE.
So Snoopy makes a turkey with veggies and a pumpkin pie for himself and Woodstock, and you're like, "Yeah, you deserve a good meal!" but you know what? It's weird to serve Woodstock a turkey.
When Winona Ryder's Jo is like naw to Christian Bale's Laurie, I'm like EXCUSE ME?! When Saoirse Ronan's Jo passes on Timothee Chalamet's Laurie, I'm like GOOD.
Other than that, I love this.
If Peeta was the main character, the Hunger Games would be almost as depressing as Requiem for a Dream.
I love, love, love the execution of the documentary intro into the episode of the 70s talk show. I wish the last 15 minutes or so just wasn't there.
I'm not sure who is less enthusiastic about aircraft, me or John Krasinski.
I couldn't get especially invested, despite finding the animation beautiful and the protagonist likable. The first half was planes, planes, planes. When the sister would show up, I'd be like YES more of this, but then it was back to planes. He meets the girl, YES more of this, back to planes. The one guy says, "We thought you were going to marry an airplane!" and so did I.
I was more into the second half.
I said that if anyone did the running man in this, I'd give it five stars. Colman Domingo: 🕺🏻

The main character Cecelia goes by Cee. CEE, a homophone for SEE, and this movie is about an INVISIBLE MAN. A little on the nose.
I waited five years to watch this because I was annoyed about a lot of things in Handmaids Tale. It's pretty good. It's better than all of Handmaids Tale except the first season.
