I haven't seen the show or read the book, so these are movie-watcher-only opinions. 🙂
I rewatched the first last night, and I just really think it would have been stronger as one film. This one felt like it had a lot of filler that really didn't move the story forward. I went to the bathroom instead of holding it because I felt confident I wouldn't miss anything, and the same song was still in progress when I got back. (I lost my winter hat during this side quest, and I am upset about that part.)
I was really excited to see how Wizard of Oz would be integrated into the story, and I didn't really love how it was done. Dorothy is already heading down the yellow brick road when the Scarecrow becomes the Scarecrow; how does he get to his post before she gets there?!
Also Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh, who I generally like a lot, did not work for me here.
I like most of the songs, Ariana, and Cynthia.

It feels like there are so few new Christmas movies each year that aren't Hallmarkesque that I will forgive this one for all of its flaws. Also I love Olivia Holt.
While obviously geared towards young kids, Toho didn’t skimp on the monster fights or the Kaiju appearance. In fact, Desghidora could be pure nightmare fuel for an impressionable youngster, especially when it manages seriously wound a young Mothra worm and to kill the elder Mothra!
Heavy subject matter for a children’s movie.
The child actors aren’t very good, sadly. They are fine when they have to run and jump and be little action stars, but they lack any ability to show any emotion. So many blank stares!

Cute, but not funny, and it seems like it should be funny. Betty White as the voice of Mrs. Claus made me smile though.

It is unfortunate that this isn't a full theatrical release, because I'm kind of obsessed with it. Josh O'Connor is excellent. I wasn't really into Challengers, and I was pretty captivated by him for the full 2+ hours. I'm also really into Josh Brolin this week. Big day for people named Josh.
PS: Not enough Jeffrey Wright
This is a weird one. I don't remember any of the controversy when it was coming out, but it seems like such a random movie to get so much attention. I see what they were trying to go for, and sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Betty Gilpin is pretty great here though, so overall it ends up being more enjoyable than not, if you're into a dark political comedy/action satire version of ol' rich hunting the poor routine. I'm not going to go around recommending it though.
Oliver Hudson and Alicia Silverstone deserve better, but also there seems to be a pretty healthy market for Hallmarkesque Christmas movies, so maybe this was an okay payday for them.
I respect the people who really love watching these cheesy holiday movies each year, and I'm happy that they're happy and having fun. I just can't get there. If Oliver Hudson can't get me there, no one can get me there. I'd still rather watch this than Polar Express though. I hate Polar Express.
