My favorite part is when the cat took a slice of pizza.
This wasn't really what I expected. It's a little weird to call it Day One and then knock the main character out for what I'd consider the important chunk. By the time Sam wakes up, everyone knows the rules and is already being quiet. Even the cat somehow knows not to meow ever. I did like the whole scene at the jazz club with the pizza, and I liked the cat.
This is so good, and I was very surprised by Daniel Stern playing the father. Tim Burton really captured a lot in less than a half hour. I loved the intro with the home movie starring Sparky and shifting the camera's perspective to Sparky's when he chases the ball. The neighbors are kind of the worst but I guess that's part of the point.

Deuce Bigalow was the first Happy Madison Productions film, and they hadn't figured out the balance between humor and heart. After an hour of the women and Deuce alternating being the butt of the jokes, it tries to execute an ending with a moral, and it is too late. I'm not going to learn a valuable life lesson from Deuce Bigelow Male Gigilo, and I don't really need that from it. It does make me laugh a few times though, and sometimes that's enough.
I honestly forgot how well put together this film is.
It’s been forever since I’ve watched it, and maybe the first time I’ve watched it off of the Criterion Blu-ray. Just a brilliant movie.
I watched this immediately after the original short film version. I prefer the short overall as a story. I love the visuals in this one though, and there is something so comforting in Martin Short's, Catherine O'Hara's, and Winona Ryder's voices. Even though I've only seen it once before, they make me feel like I've seen it a hundred times.
Corpse Bride is beautiful, and I love the name. Corpse Bride. Right to the point. I just lose interest once the actual corpse bride shows up. I'm all in on the Pride & Prejudice sort of story pre-Emily, and I'm super into all the skeletons and stuff post-Emily. I guess a 33% dead love triangle isn't my thing. It really is gorgeous though.
The Wizard of Oz is my favorite movie. I respect Return to Oz's cult following, but my allegiance will always be to the original. Return to Oz is a (more faithful ) adaptation of the sequel books, not a sequel to the movie, so I view them as separate adaptations either way.
Anyway, Return to Oz. Fairuza Balk is a great little Dorothy. I love Tik-Tok. He looks like a steampunk reimagining of Rudolph's Sam the Snowman. The animatronics and puppets are so 1980's, which is a lot of fun. The Nome King is definitely the weak point for me visually and narratively; I wish Mombi was the sole villain. Also I remember the Wheelers being nightmare fodder, but it was a wild decision to just show their human faces all the time. The metal masks are way scarier and cooler.

Dianne Wiest was perfectly cast, but the rest of the film, while beautifully set and written, was a snooze fest.
I hadn't seen this since it came out ~20 years ago, and I forgot the plot because the name Derailed tricked me into thinking the train had a larger role.
Then it all came back to me. I like Clive Owen and his 2000s leading man spree, so that's enough to get me in the door. Its a pretty solid thriller in terms of holding my attention. It dips its toes into Lifetime Movie waters a couple times, but not too far. The ending would have been stronger without the last ten minutes. Sometimes the first ending is enough; no epilogue necessary.
It is unhinged for a summer camp to do a Thanksgiving play.
Even though Addams Family and Addams Family Values both get five stars, Values is my favorite. I love everything at summer camp. Wednesday's smile after the last round in the Harmony Hut is iconic. The baby is so cute, and so is tiny David Krumholtz. Joan Cusack is the perfect addition as the villain. What a great double feature.
