I already don't like the animated version that much but this remake just throws everything good the original had out the window. For one the film looks gross, weird and boring all at the same time. The film drains out all the color the original film has.
The dwarfs which kinda were the best part of the original film don't have any charm anymore because the look ugly as shit and just the overall whimsy-Ness of the characters is lost.

Mike Flanagan has been praised allot and the life of chuck only justifies that praise even more.
While the film sometimes can be a bit difficult to get, not in its themes of existentialism and life itself but more so it's structure. It goes from one point in time to the next which I didn't mind myself.
I think the only downside to this film is that personally nick Offerman doesn't do a great job narrating the film.(Also yes i will use this review to shamelessly advertise my own film

Ballerina does allot of things right but also wrong. The acting is mostly good but imo ana de armas is not a good dramatic actor(in this)
While the john wick films strike a balance between story and action....this one doesn't do that, the story wasn't terrible but its also not amazing, its messy. John wick luckily isn't in it that much which i was worried about.
Lastly, the villain wasn't that good lol.
a movie that barks but doesn't bite, it tackles topics like ai but on the most surface level and it doesn't do anything special with its concept either. what i find so strange is that it mentions the genocide or at least isreal and palestine in the same sentence and....this movie just ain't that good to even mention that.
the third act is unbearably dull, even more then the first two. the characters are just your standard bussiness billionare tycoons.
the film likes to talk, allot and i love talky films, clerks is one of my favorite films which relies heavily on dialogue rather then visuals but the reason this film doesn't work like that is because it wants to get to the next political topic to the point that there is no breathing room.
As someone who doesn't normally fuck with anthology films, this film is amazing and connects all the three story in a great way which leads to a great conclusion.
I am interested in a seqeul, wether if be a follow up as to what happened to the two people that escaped the planet or another anthology film.
everything about this annoys me.
i did not find one performance to be remarkable, the cinematpgraphy is serviceable but nothing sticks out.the most atrocious part of this film is obviously in the treatment of the so called "main character"
this story is not about her as a person or her journey into becoming a woman but rather the cis people around her and yes this film is set in another time period but thats not an excuse.
especially in the world we live in, we do not need this movie. it prioritizes the feelings of cis people and idk if this has happened to anyone else but it feels like cis people think trans people owe them something after coming out, to take it slow or to consider they're feelings but the fact is cis people don't get to choose what is and what is not a woman.
cis people should not create a criteria of things that trans people should have experienced in order to qualify being trans.
i've had that experience this week, my mother asked me "i've never seen you play with dolls, you never wanted to wear dress as a child"
and just the overall whiny-ness of not keeping they're(my mothers and sisters) feelings in check when i wore a dress in front of them.
i told them i do not feel comfortable in my body and how i am, what does make me comfortable is wearing a dress and being called a girl.
i litteraly cried during my screening of the phoenician scheme when mia threapelton came on screen simply because not only is it gonna take a long time before people are not actually gonna call me by my deadname but also the process ingeneral.
but then she proceeds to say "not in every culture is a dress specifically for woman" and like, thats such bullshit statement, its true but what does that have to do with anything? the reason why saying all this is because there seems to be a rather weird complex with many cis people, they need to know what, how and why. you need to have played with dolls which my mother only said simply because a trans woman she knows did which is another problem and thats the notion that trans woman or men are somehow linked with their experience, allot of them do but we aren't all the same and allot of us have different experiences. it becomes a problem when you compare experiences.
this film only supports that which is absolute fucking bullshit.
my first wong kar-wai film and its a good one.
a film about a relationship between two men that begins to fall and shatter, its sad to see.
the film lets us know that they both do love eachother but the personalities also clash. its beautifully tragic in how love can sometimes fade.
its not perfect but the film has its heart in the right place, the film can be funny allot of the times and daniel craig gives a killer performance which makes allot of it work.

Excellent in ways and mediocre in others.
First of all its a wes anderson film so of course the film looks great, the three main actors all have great chemistry but my main problems are the characters.They aren't bad but allot of the decisions made left me scratching my head, I felt Bjorn being revealed to be a spy has almost no impact besides like 1 thing, it doesn't make interesting or uninteresting but it kinda just does nothing which sucks because I really liked his character up until then because micheal cera is so perfect in his role.
Korda, the main player in this feature is one I also don't dislike but i didn't feel like he changed in a meaningful way at the end. Yes his character went threw an arc but yet I felt that arc went uncompleted, it felt unsatisfying to say the least.
And like with mia threapelton, the acting is good but I think sometimes Andersons direction feels more suited for a Broadway play which isn't inherently a bad thing but when you are making a film, its important to get emotion across with facial expression and im not a fan of the 99% deadpan reaction which feels more like a way to uplift the dry comedy.
It does do that but it becomes an issue when it left me feeling kinda stoic with my emotions towards the characters themselves.
With that said the characters are likeable enough but not anything note worthy.As for the sidecharacters i felt some were really funny and others were just useless fodder to make the story progress. Which they inherently kinda are maybe on purpose but that really doesn't do anything for me.
Thats maybe a slight problem with this film and his other last film astroid city were wes has written maybe has a bit to much characters into the story which are mostly played by big stars.
I think its more excusable in this movie then in that film. Of course wes has always had big cast but i always felt those characters like in the grand budapest besides maybe jeff goldblum moved the story allong in a meaningfull way while having a unique charm to them.
Here they do have some charm but it also feels like wes anderson's charm on autopilot.
Overall the pheonician scheme is not bad but i didn't fully understand what wes was trying to do half of the time.
idk allot about queer rights and how that plays out in china but from what little i know, china seems to be not the most open on the idea.
i like this film because we see an affair being made not because of hate or anything but because deep down thats not the life you want to live. its better to hide your true self in such a country then to display it.
with that said i don't think the wife character was not entirely in the wrong in the first half, i think its reasonable to be upset about an affair, gay or not.....now the second half, there in she just cuts his throat.
one of the most important documanteries of all time, its about the lives of queer people in specifically new york and the ways they try to live they're lifes the best they can, i had a conversation with my mother yesterday which began because i wore a dress for the first time in front of her and it was a fine conversation but one thing that is total bullshit is that you could be gay, trans or lesbian in the 80s/90s without getting judged.
such utter dogshit statement, there was always and will always be oppresion but there will also be always ways queer people will find a way to be themselves, there will and always will be judgement.
