As part of the #ShudderSunday series, @SpookySarahSays and I were joined by @DuncanBirm to talk about all things dogs... I mean Who Invited Them.

Lately, I've felt the urge to avoid (film) trailers because they tend to give away the entire film in one minute or less. For this film, I went without watching any teasers or trailers, just the film's summary.

Adam and Margo’s housewarming party is a success. However, one mysterious couple linger long after all the other guests have left. The couple reveals themselves to be Tom and Sasha, wealthy neighbors, but as a single nightcap leads to another, they start to suspect these new friends are actually duplicitous strangers.

Like our previous #ShudderSunday screening of Allegoriawith Spider One and Krys Fox, listening to the film's director(s)/writer(s) enhances the film-watching experience.

Duncan provided a ton of insight into how the film came to be, the set locations, and what films inspired it. We played upon real-life scenarios that paralleled the film's plot (without giving too much away), slightly introducing us for what we're about to experience.

One person in the chat coined the term "polite home invasion", and I think those three words really nailed it.

Who Invited Them is a home invasion film, but not what you'd expect when comparing it to such films as You're next or Funny Games, maybe even The Invitation.

What starts as an inappropriate introduction turned friendly schmooze among partygoers (the last remaining couple post-party) eventually erupts into a are they polite or are they overstepping boundaries type of game. Lines (both verbal and snorted) and casual chit-chat lead to more friendly conversation and mixed drinks, and then this is when the real suspense begins.

There's a lot of are they or aren't they scenarios that pop up throughout the film, leading to a tense conclusion that you have to see to believe!

Overall, I enjoyed the film (Congratulations, @DuncanBirm, on your debut feature film). If you're looking for both a horror/suspense film mixed with comedic bits, this is for you!
