agnes varda's le boncheur is something entirely unique, especially in terms of the things that happen and the films perspective of them.
a film with a color coat. cheerfull music, colorfull outfits and even the addition of children is suppose to throw you off later when francios ultimately cheats on his wife and events spiral out of control but thats the things, everything appears to be normal but when his wife dies, maybe even supposedly killed herself....the happiness continue's.the film qeustions what true happiness is and to what end we meet our selfish side. you can never truly make everyone happy but the one who twists and silently destroys someones life gets to live his life further.
he ends up with the person who he cheated on his wife with and she's happy, its a film that also raises the qeustion as to how morally wrong cheating is to a degree but its also a tale of doomed happiness that instructs us to consider what makes us happy and who makes us happy and examine that.its something i've personally struggled with inside my own family, not the cheating but more so the incapability to do the right thing that could make everyone happy and instead choose to use happiness as a tool for ones despaire, unknowingly or not.

Definitely not my favorite version of the classic story but the way the beast looks and is shown is something I absolutely adore. I just wish I liked the first act better because while its still good I also thought it kinda took away from the already short runtime so not everything felt cohesive as a result but what is here is still really good.
A magnitude of a feature but also a film that kinda acts like an anthology just with the same characters because a lot of it feels disconnected sometimes despite it being a single narrative but it remains rewarding.
I will say the third act is way to long but whatever.While its cinematography mainly uses mediums or full shots, the thing that separates it from a lot of dull films is that the camera is always moving from one composition to another and it remains engaging throughout.
Maybe not the greatest epic ever but a textbook for what should be a great epic(without the loads of brown face tho)
it both portrays the emotions of these people and also their hunger for seeking a better life. im sure if you read many reviews of this film you'll be seeing the fact that this directed by a white man multiple times but also the fact that its suprisingly not THAT exploitative of the lives of the people.
there is an argument to be made that a lot of films, intended or not, are exploitative but im not gonna dabble in there for this this film because personally i still found myself liking the semi fictional story but all to real community enjoyeable to watch as their spirit remains on screen for all 70 min.
One of the few thrillers that lacks any sort of suspense whatsoever. I didn't have high hopes for some reason, I heard mixed things but I ultimately didn't feel myself drawn to this and thats part due to that it kinda fumbles to say anything meaningfull.
Sure, its about an abusive husband getting murdered but then the end twist happens which doesn't necessarily throw me off, it just leaves me with a lot of qeustion surrounding its themes. You could see this as the understanding to (straight) woman's nature to be drawn to a man even if in order to claim him the person needs to fuck up another woman's life but I generally don't think that works simply because the film never gives any foreshadowing or build up to that so it just feels kinda cheap. I could say this film is about the abusive woman face but it also sometimes feels very comical in some parts. It also doesn't help that I while I do sympathize with this person inside this abusive relationship, after they murder him.....she just becomes nothing and largely i think the second act is to slow where nothing really substantially interesting happens.
Sure its necessary to show how both woman operate as individuals while also setting up its mysterious elements besides the main relationship that drives the plot but I ultimately didn't get much out of it.
Its not an interesting take on action haunting on you. In fact I would say a lot of movies to that better.Some good lead performances doesn't really help this one.
i did find the the main themes of the fear of remembering and forgetting.
thats something we all face once in our life but i also don't think the historical connection between france and japan isn't that huge during the time of the hiroshima bombing for this to be so impactfull.sure, japan had a slight confrontation with vichy france but that wasn't that huge of a thing from what i've read and the romance is decent but largely its held together by the themes of, like i said, remembering and forgetting.
i do think stuff related to that is really good and in some ways it helps the romance be engaging due to the time left with eachother but im not so strong on that romance. it is a conflicting movie to say the least where i could talk about tho pros and cons and how each of positives help strengthen the somewhat negatives but i also think its more interesting in its panicking of time rather then any of its ideas the hiroshima bombing. its lingering trauma through its linear storytelling is unique and engaging and ultimately, the film is a bit tricky but ultimately i do think its "good" but i do have conflicting feelings.
the on screen duo of jean-pascal zadi and raphaël Quenard is decently charming but thats all it really has. its cheezy and unbearable akward at moments and largely the longer the film went on the more i wished the camera actually moved rather then every shot being static.
the romanticization of the american myth and dream, while based on real events, is still romanticization and it never does more with that. its kinda just like this years micheal but slightly less offensive.
ingeneral i think, while we truly need uplifting stories feature and about black people, this will just give people false hope. thats not really due to the movie itself, its just the timing of it being released that sucks because if anything, american is not this and it doesn't take place in the current year but that effect is still not gone. this would be fine if either the screenplay, score or film making were good but some of the choices in all three categories remain qeustionable at best.(watch my films

sometimes to slow and clunky with its character writing but its still very delightfull and funny. i wish it had better treatment for its female characters but to be fair, apparantely stephen chow is making another shaolin soccer film specifically starring an all woman cast.
not much to say besides the fact that stephen chow loves martial arts films which leads to the slight parody working. if anything, if someone behind a parody film loves the thing they parody then there is a higher chance that its good.
I got this movie on blu ray months ago, idk why i bought it but i've heard and seen it a lot of times. I've seen how popular it is so i was intrigued but im not sure what this all is.
I really didn't care for its setting, its all ugly ass white suburban houses, school and furniture and it makes the already fine cinematography look boring as fuck. On the conversation of "boring" the main characters besides Patrick are dull and generally, Ezra millers performance is really good as well so it leaves me wonder why the other are so stilted and wooden. I did expect a very commercial queer and just love ingeneral, story but the way the film depicts teens is really shallow and boring. It makes it look and sound like a Disney channel movie sometimes.
The problem the three main characters is that they are puppets( to be fair every character in a movie is a puppet) for this shallow look at teenagers that you've already seen a million times. Its crumbs of queerness still feels very white and expected as to what you will find depicted in this and its ironic because the rocky horror picture show is a mirror to what the queerness of this film is (even when its not to that movies extend) which is that its somewhat outdated and just there for decoration. I do think there is something of a problem to be discussed in terms of seeking queer love but even then its shallow at best.
Maybe don't put a lot of emphasis on narration that is just the characters thoughts and nothing else. Narration is fine but i always hate when movies do that shit where its all throughout the film and its just a singular characters thoughts.

Probably the film released this year that i will revisit the most considering to me, its the most personal in interest. If anything, internet horror has been a big thing in my life. When i was in elementary school, i thought cartoon cat was real lol(obviously not anymore....👀)
Anyway backrooms the film might not have the greatest screenplay ever but i still find whats there fascinating and great. I relate to the struggles...maybe not one to one but i get it. Trauma doesn't reappear in full mode, it mostly happens in small doses for me at least and so while the screenplay may not put full attention to it, to me....mary's trauma is complete, her story is complete and i think maybe thats why i gel with the film so well besides things like the score, the setdesign and chiwetel ejiofor's performance. Its just...i relate to its, not only as a concept but i think its just a film that understands me.
One of my rules or just pattern in some of my favorite films is how they represent a vital part of me, from adaptation and longlegs representing my love for nicolas cage, clerks 2 represents my love for Kevin smith, the thing representing my love for horror as a whole and movies like Tokyo sonata which understands the hell of the family dynamic. But what backrooms and just liminality represents to me is comfort but also how unsafe normal can be. I am walking in the backrooms, I just....have to wait like 5 years to get out. Nevermind the fact that over the last 2-3 years i've build up a bunch of mistakes and unpleasant memories.
as good and as non on the nose as a film entirely about hitler can be or at least, that i've seen. i think it generally portrays hitler as the personality we think of. childish, loud and arrogant but the more interesting parts of the film is the people around him. its like placing a smiling friend character in a room full of people from the "real world" as i say with quoteation marks as the other people are still all nazi's but the fascistic themes are really funny because THEY eventually can't subscribe to ideas of hitler more and more.
like a lot of films from the 2000s, it has harsh shadows with minimal colors or at least, minimal saturation but at least here it works due to the subject matter and i think the decision to begin this film in the losing years of hitler is the best choice they made because omg, i can't take much war in a war film anymore, the well is dry but downfall is interesting all be it, sometimes one note but i think the fascistic believe that nobody is safe from it is a factual and interesting topic while never giving a lot of sympathy for anyone. i would say tho, even if i think they are on the same level....salo is a somewhat more interesting discussion of facist regime even if it is way to unsubtle about it but hey, downfall is about hitler so who am i to say what is unsubtle?
downfall is way longer then it should be and i do get tired after the millionth hitler rant and i do think some of its character is disposable, my god is bruno ganz great in this.
A film im conflicted about because i genuinely can't tell what im suppose to think about it.
The film displays a heavy amount of sadness aswell as empathy for its main cast but idk if i should feel empathy but still makes sense to give that to these characters. I generally didn't care for a majority of the cast, like if it isn't focused on juliette then it becomes very boring very fast because generally the other characters are not interesting unless she is in the room or place with them with sucks because the two sisters give both great performances.
Its cinematography is fine if a bit unremarkable sometimes to look at.
Its both fine but also strangely a good combination of elements that i personally do not enjoy.
