I think sometimes you just had to be there, or maybe be at the right age or in the right mood or with the right person and the right snacks and the right weather... I can say that watching it for the first time today was not the right anything for me. I really wanted it to be. I liked the effects, and it was fun to see Marcy D'Arcy.
I like it because it's Peanuts, but mostly it's on the same disc as It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, soooo it auto-plays.
Patrick Bateman would definitely be able to kill me, because he could just say, "Do you want to see my CD collection?" and I'd answer, "Yeah, of course I do."
It feels silly to even type something like "Catherine O'Hara steals every scene and is amazing and iconic" because DUH. Truly though, every moment she is on the screen is a gift.
And for everyone who is like waaah it's not as good as the original, of course it's not. It was never going to be. It's as good as I needed it to be though.
If Hush had been released and popular during the Scary Movie franchise era, there would have definitely been a scene parodying when the killer was making noises to try to get her attention before he realized she's deaf.
There's only so much you can do with a home invasion movie (I like them, but it's true), and centering on a deaf mute protagonist is an interesting and fresh perspective, even if it did take Maddie way too long to start to look for a weapon. I think it would have been scarier if the killer had kept his mask on though, because it was an effectively creepy mask, or at least waited longer to take it off.
When I was a senior in high school, I voted for this as my favorite movie for the high school yearbook, and so did a few of my friends. I think we had enough people pick it that it won. Sorry to everyone I graduated with who will look at that yearbook and expect to be reminded of a movie from the 2000s.
I thought I wouldn't like this, because even though I like George Clooney in other movies and I like Quentin Tarantino's movies, I feel like I don't like them. What a surprise that I kind of loved this! The special effects are so 90's, and I love that. I did not expect the vampires to look the way they did. It made me want to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the show. Bummer I waited so long to watch it.

I have never been so keen to want people to die. I don’t mean the characters. I mean absolutely everyone involved in making this STUPID movie! I knew I wasn’t going to see anything Oscar worthy, but damn…
Whelp… Popeye the Slayerman is apparently the Citizen Kane of Popeye horror films.
This film is just vapid shite, to use the films vernacular. The filmmakers couldn’t even be bothered to try. Just utter nonsense.
Sinister is almost two hours of Ethan Hawke wearing an open chunky knit grandpa sweater over old tees, sometimes with black framed glasses, watching old home movies on a projector, and that alone makes it worth a watch.
The actual movie is good too. I got a little antsy in the beginning, because you really do spend a lot of time watching Ellison watch movies. I like where it ended up though, and I like the journey. There were effective jump scares, and they succeeded every time they tried to give me the heeby-jeebies. I did not expect any aspect of the ending, in a good way.
I couldn't get into this one. Love you Michael J Fox. Love you Robert Zemekis. Love you Melanie Lynskey and your brief cameo.
