I didn't read the summary or watch the trailer beforehand, so when the supernatural stuff started happening, I had to double check to make sure I started the right movie.
I had fun watching this because a lot of the dialogue is funny, especially Lisa Kudrow and Parker Posey. I could take or leave the actual plot, but I can appreciate that they did something different with the couple-introduces-their-parents-before-getting-engaged set up.
Like <I>Revenge</i> and <I>Wolf Creek</i> before it, <I>Blood Star</i> drives us through a terrifying game of cat-and-mouse while not stepping on the brakes to ensure that we're given a thrilling ride.
It's an exciting ride as a violent Sherriff, known for being a hard-ass in his jurisdiction, taunts outsiders by charging them for offenses they didn't commit while confiscating their items to keep them involved with his sick and twisted games. However, the actions of the characters can't go unnoticed. There are moments where you want to punch the screen because of many of the dumb decisions our main character makes, which she then ultimately pays for in the end.
Still, <I>Blood Star</i> is worth a watch. It's a nail-biting thriller as the cool and collected Sherriff, who has a grip on the small town he oversees, preys upon unsuspecting women who travel through his area. There are a few questionable moments, but the final ten minutes with make you squirm.

5. Twilight seriesI expected this to be more horror, but I don't mind that it isn't. It's more of a dark rom-com. The ending was very unexpected, and I can see it being divisive. I liked the unpredictability. The only things I didn't like is the end credit music, which jolted me out of the film's final moments, and the monster looked like the GEICO cavemen.
Mr. Milchick is in this.
Sweethearts is exactly what it you think it will be: a college rom-com-dram that's a notch better than other straight-to-streaming rom-com-dram's because it has Kiernan Shipka, and she is good.
No offense to the primary plot, but the side plot is much better. Palmer, their high school friend, is planning his Coming Out Party and ends up on a side quest with the school's gay football coach (Mr. Milchick from Severance) and his boyfriend. This part is funnier, sweeter, and more memorable.
The effects are the star. Impressive for the budget.
Not the best movie otherwise.
Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire
Spiral feels like it was written to be a cop thriller, and then at the last minute they rebranded it as a Saw movie, like when comedies used to be branded as National Lampoon or American Pie.
It was a nice break from keeping track of the very complicated Saw timeline though, and Samuel L Jackson/Chris Rock as a father/son is fun. The killer's identity was very obvious by the halfway point though.
The sequel will be called "Another One of Them Days."
This reminds me of the comedies I'd see in the theater with my friends in high school, and I love that. Most of my biggest laughs were from random throwaway lines, which isn't a knock on the actual plot. I just love a throwaway line. "We gotcha, and we'll getcha!"

One of the most bizarre experiences in film that I’ve had. Did I love it? No, but I loved the experience if that makes any sense. (I’m sure in some universe it does.)

Mia Wasikowska is lovely and charming as an older Alice. I like the scenery and how the animated characters look. I don't like the design of the Mad Hatter, Johnny Depp's portrayal of him, the Red Queen's bulbous head, or the Knave of Hearts. Unfortunately that is a large percentage of the runtime.
