It's hard to imagine this will ever stop being considered the best comic book movie ever made. I should give it five stars, and it would deserve them, but realistically I probably won't feel the urge to watch this again for another decade.

I saw this when it came out because it stars Ryan Phillippe and Jesse Bradford. I like them and think they're good, but I wonder if it would have done better if the casting catered less to my demographic.
Can you imagine if the trailers were about the first half, and the second half was just a total surprise? 🤯
The downside of a film switching genres is that sometimes the first one is done so well that I don't want to switch. Spending an hour with Smoke and Stack as they return from Chicago and bop around town getting ready to open their juke joint was enough for me to know I want a prequel about them in Chicago and that I don't want them to be attacked by vampires. That's a Stormy problem though, and that's for me to deal with.
Once I accepted that we transitioned to the vampire part, I was all in, but the second half of it was rushed. I didn't get enough time to process and feel my feelings. That's my spoiler free assessment. I would still be down for a prequel.

Favorite (Not Necessarily Best) Four From Every Year Since Birth
There was quite a lot of hype behind this film, and understandably so, because of its concept, studio backing (Blumhouse), director, Jaume Collet-Serra, who directed such films like <I>Orphan</i>, <I>House of Wax,/I> and <I>The Shallows</i>.Unfortunately, it felt more like a January release (much like <I>Night Swim</i> and <I>Imaginary</i> received, if that makes sense and you know what that means).

Danny McBride is funny enough to thrive in a super low budget comedy. He can just riff into a camcorder and sell it. The downside is his dialogue and his interactions with Julio are really the only parts that fully worked for me.
I thought this took place prior to 2012 because of the landline but nope.
What a funny hidden gem. Ari Graynor is a hoot and a delight. She can execute a one-liner and then immediately switch to being vulnerable and soft. Enough laugh out loud and quoteworthy moments to warrant a future watch, along with a few surprising cameos.

With the hacker plot, it should have been called DIE H4RD with the 4 as the A.
It seems like John McClane spent the decade between Die Hard 3 and 4 doing sidequests for xp, because he has unlocked a full skill tree of new abilities. I'm not that into the Die Hard franchise as a whole, so I don't mind, but I think I would mind if I had grown up on the original trilogy. Ultimately I want to root for Timothy Olyphant either way.
Wow! What they could have done with a budget big enough to hire extras instead of having store mannequins terrorize everyone in the final act.
What I took away from this film is, psychic abilities are real and sororities are bad!
Project Mayhem sounds like if a bunch of guys from the Family Values Tour formed a new super group, like when New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys formed NKOTBSB.
I get why people like this so much. I don't like it as much. I do like watching Edward Norton fight himself. It just seems to escalate quickly, like really basically every guy in the city is in the club?
Although this didn't connect with me personally, I can see it being impactful and important for others, and I'm sure its audience will continue to grow until it has firmly achieved cult status.
I read that it was inspired by the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show. I've always preferred the movie, so maybe it tracks that it didn't resonate with me as much.
So far, in 2025, we have three Popeye films: <I>Popeye's Revenge</i>, <I><A HREF="https://boxd.it/9cA2rl">Popeye the Slayer Man</A></i>, and <I>Shiver Me Timbers</i>. This is the worst of the three, but I give them credit for spending most of their budget on "comets".
