Am I scared of the girl from Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist now?
I expected this to be much campier. The visuals and effects are quite scary, and the gross stuff is certainly gross. Everything is well-executed; this is just a case of something not being my style enough for an eventual rewatch.

Tale as old as time. Scientist creates wonder drug. Rival scientist steals drug and uses it to clone alien creature which escapes and goes on rampage in the jungle. 1st Scientist, who is also special forces trained (apparently) goes to hunt creature down in a ALIEN meets PREDATOR meets RELIC meets INDIANA JONES type adventure.
Does too many things so-so, & does nothing outstanding. Stars that guy you think you know but don’t know from where.
I'm not sure which parts are fabricated, and it doesn't even matter. Netflix has a knack for finding unbelievable true stories (looking at you, Tiger King) and making a miniseries out of it. This one is very well acted, led by Kaitlyn Dever. Ultimately it was a little longer than it needed to be, but still a worthwhile watch.
Not be confused with <I><A HREF="https://boxd.it/RB0M">Popeye's Revenge</A></i>, which a few publications recently mistook for <B>this</b> film, Popeye is another character whose IP expired and became free game. So, why turn a beloved childhood cartoon into a menace to society? Why not.
At first, I laughed at the concept of <I>Popeye the Slayer Man</i> based off it's initial teaser trailer. It looked cheesy, rushed, and full of bad acting (yet I still wanted to watch it). That's not really the case here, and I suggest not watching those trailers if given the opportunity.
Like most horror films, it's filled with characters who make a number of poor choices, such as running into an abandoned spinach factory that's known to harbor the titular character. I think we should highlight the creative story about how he worked at the factory, which was shut down due to contaminated spinach, which he eats and evolves into a monster. It plays off the cartoon's ideology while giving it the horror twist we need. Sure, it was terrible at times, but, overall, it's exactly what you expect and ultimately delivers in the end.
I'm not especially into action movies, but when I am, it's fun and over-the-top action-comedies. Shoot Em Up is #1, and I have a soft spot for the Jason Statham-verse. Novocaine is a nerdy variant of that same strain.
I had to look away from some of the injuries though. Adorable Jack Quaid made me let my guard down, and then the next thing I know, fingernails are getting pulled off. Eek.
There's a scene where Colin Farrell has glasses and is brushing his teeth, and for the first time I thought, "Okay, I get it now."
He is so funny in this. I loved the first hour or so when it was centered on him and the dark comedic dialogue. It lost me a bit as it shifted to final act. It was still good, but less fun.
Honestly I'm just so relieved to have a break from remembering everything about every other Saw movies. The last few have been so incredibly intertwined with the way they've woven timelines together that it has become too complicated. I don't want Saw homework.
The trap parts of this were pretty good. Not as gross as some of the others, which I appreciated, and less bad actors.
I wanted to end the weekend with something light and funny, and here I am crying about something that doesn't even actually happen in the movie.
I'm a sucker for a good coming-of-age film. My Old Ass wasn't what I expected (which was something funnier, raunchier, and with a lot more Aubrey Plaza), but I like it as it is. It is marching to the beat of its own drum, with the protagonist being visited by her future self. It's never explained, and that's weird, but I don't mind.
My only complaint is that I think it was a misstep to for Elliott to be a lesbian prior to falling in love with Chad. She has one conversation with a friend afterwards about being confused about it, but overall they don't explore it enough for it to be the right move.
(Additional minor complaint: Why name the guy Chad? That's literally the worst guy. Source: Me.)

This is my version of a stacked cast. I'll always love Dakota Johnson and her limes. Jason Mantzoukas is my favorite scene-stealing support character here.
Everyone's characters works for me except Rebel Wilson's. It's a little more subdued than when she plays the character in other things, but it just doesn't mesh with the rest as well. Not a knock on her, it was written that way.
Fun and easy watch. Enough laugh out loud moments to make this something I'd watch again. I'll buy the blu-ray if I can find it for $5 or less.
Fashionable villain is honestly Blake's sweet spot. She should be doing more of this.
A Simple Favor gets pretty wacky as it goes, and there are some very WTF choices (Stephanie and her brother 👀). Anna Kendrick is so funny though that it works more as a dark comedy than an effective thriller.
