Neighbors is pretty funny. Part frat movie, part parenting comedy. It feels like an extension of the Apatowverse.
Rose Byrne earned a permanent spot in my heart from Bridesmaids. Seth Rogen is always funny, and he and Rose Byrne complement each other well. Her Australian accent somehow works as a barrier from anything becoming too low brow. It can't be too bro-y if Rose is there.
Carla Gallo is one of my favorite "omg I love her but I don't know her name!" actresses.

A fun little film about a group of twenty-somethings that become stranded on the side of the road by a sniper with no known motive. The mediocre acting is tolerable due to the great kills (and a good ending). It has <i>Night of the Hunted</i> (2023) vibes, minus the unnecessary, ridiculous politics and a killer who won’t shut up.
Shang Chi is a fun ride. It has more cameos than I expected, and some of the cameos are characters I never expected to see again. The fight choreography is really interesting and often beautiful. Simu Liu and Awkwafina have an organic chemistry, and their banter is easy and effortless.
My favorite part, the bus fight, happens early in the movie, so it does peak too soon. The ending fight is too long. There's definitely 10-20 minutes that could have been removed, but not the Pokemon. The Pokemon should all stay.

What the hell did I just watch?!
Someone thought they had a GREAT idea, and well, honestly it was a pretty good idea, but the execution… I’m just not sure. Maybe I’m supposed to come to my own conclusions.
It wants to make you think, but what I’m thinking is “Huh?”
I didn't like this as much as I remembered liking it. In my memory, there was a lot more Tracy Flick and Paul, and a little less Mr. McAllister, and it was funnier.
Spirals from realistic to ridiculous almost immediately, in the best way possible. You think it'll be like Superbad but then it's Not Another Teen Movie and... Macgruber.
I went into rewatching thinking maybe this is actually my third favorite of the MCU Spider-Man movies. Homecoming and Far From Home are just so much fun, and No Way Home has quite a few weird plot choices. I have probably overrated No Way Home due to my unstoppable nostalgia bias, and this is the time that I would keep that in check!
Yet here I am, two and a half hours later, leaving No Way Home above the other two in my MCU ranking. I've decided to just accept the flaws as the price of having three franchises collide, and it's a price I am happy to pay to bring back Willem Dafoe and Andrew Garfield. It's just so cool to have all the Spider-Man's (Spider-Men?) and villains in the same movie.
Aunt May asks Doc Ock if he wants fresh or salt water because he's an octopus. That's gold.

It's basically perfect except for two things. 1) Timothy Chamalet growing up to be Casey Affleck. 2) Why do they say "Murph" a million times? Every character says it multiple times in every conversation with her.
Edited to add: Screen Junkies has a Murph supercut on YouTube. It is said 79 times. That's pretty much once every other minute for nearly three hours.

The film that bankrupted Empire Pictures!
This is by far not a great film, but it is still a lot of fun, and considering the relatively low budget that they had to work with does a fine job with the stop-motion animation.
The animation is subpar by today’s standards, (and barely passable for 1989), the acting is over the top, and the plot is… immaterial.
Just shut the brain off and enjoy!
I was ten years old when this came out, and this is the closest thing to a 1995 dream cast scenario for little Stormy.
- Christina Ricci, from Mermaids, Addams Family (+Values), and Casper? Yes.
- Thora Birch from Monkey Trouble and Hocus Pocus? Obviously yes.
- Gaby Hoffman from that made for tv version of Freaky Friday? Yes.
- Devon Sawa, the quarterback of the Little Giants, Casper himself?! The biggest yes of all.I don't even care about the adult cast. I didn't then, and I still don't.
This is the first time I've watched it in maybe ten years. It holds up surprisingly well, partially due to the majority of the film taking place in 1970, so it doesn't have that 90's aesthetic dating it. The themes and struggles are still relevant to kids today. Divorced parents, puberty, weight issues, feeling invisible, boys, loss of a parent, wanting bigger boobs, wanting smaller boobs. It's actually a little surprising this hasn't gotten a remake.

The cast was solid and the acting was okay, but the story began to drown in itself as the movie progressed, especially with that terrible ending.
Don't go for a swim with this one.
