I am a fan of BJ Novak's writing in general. The Office, The Book With No Pictures, One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories. So overall, I thought this was well-written. It was a pretty solid mystery, and I was very surprised by the ending.
I think Dove Cameron's character deserves a better name than Kansas City though.

This was actually a lot fun. Not a bad update and homage to the original series. Had the a Guy Ritchie touch for sure, but still felt like Vaughn and McCallum.
Central Intelligence is a perfectly serviceable buddy action-comedy. It is not as funny as The Nice Guys, The Other Guys, or 21/22 Jump Street, and it's not as funny as The Rock/Kevin Hart's Jumanji movies together, but it gets a few cheap laughs and has some nice anti-bullying moments. It's fine for what it is.
Jumping the Broom just isn't very interesting or well-written. There are a lot of wedding movies that have their version of the same plot points, and this one doesn't do anything memorable. It's not badly made or poorly acted, but it's also not especially funny or heart-warming. These two characters should probably not get married,
I don't watch sports, but I like sports movies if they are more about people who happen to be playing sports instead of the actual sport.
As someone with minimal knowledge of Jackie Robinson's history heading into this, I was locked in from the start. It covered a very digestible portion of his life with enough background info to tell a complete story. It is emotional and inspiring, and it is also heartbreaking watching it with the knowledge of Chadwick Boseman's unexpectedly early passing.
How in the sam scratch did this manage to keep a PG13 rating?! Maybe the studio managed to talk the MPAA into it so more people would come see it if they knew there was this much skin on display, ‘cause it sure wasn’t going to be the plot! (Not the worst, but there are definitely a bunch of “because the plot needs it to be” moments.)
Everything Everywhere All At Once is fast paced and demands full attention. It is visually stunning. I wish I had seen it at the theater.
This feels like the rare movie that gets better with each rewatch.
Emma Stone and the clothes are excellent. Disney movies should not be more than two hours long though.
This just wasn't for me.
I love the look of Licorice Pizza. I love that the cast look like real people in the world. It taught me that pinball was illegal. Other than that, I couldn't get into it. The age gap is definitely part of it. They meet during school picture day.
I picked this because of Rachel Weisz, and other than that I went in blind (pun unintended but I'm keeping it). When Colin Farrell gets to the hotel and we learn has 45 days to find a wife or get turned into an animal of his choice, and that the dog with him is his brother... Whew. I was not expecting that, but I was on board and ready to go on this journey.
It is funny and dark and weird and sad and outrageous. I can't wait to watch it again.
Favorite (Not Necessarily Best) Four From Every Year Since Birth
When I saw the trailer for this, it felt like it was going to be Wreck It Ralph meets the Lego Movie. I still think it is trying to be that, except those two are super fun and clever, and this is a just fine movie to have on when you're watching TV with your sick child and they may or may not fall asleep.
I love Steve "The Hair" Harrington though.
The trailer made me think this would be a thriller, similar to Gone Girl. It is really more of a drama, which is fine, just not what I was expecting.
If you're reading this before watching it, just know going into it trigger warning for SA and a school shooting. I don't think the poster and the description would make you think it was going that way.
Overall it feels sort of like an elevated Lifetime movie. I haven't read the book, so maybe that is more due to the subject material. Chiara Aurelia is very good as young Mila, and I'm always happy to see Connie Britton.
