surrealist pieces of art like this fuel my passion for making films.

films like these are what really allows the weird, the unconvential to shine and while people like david lynch are the poster boy for such things, we need more film makers like him to add a much needed variety to surrealist films. its not even that david lynch created such a concept but he's probably one of the most famous to do so.

Interesting it is.

A story about stories and i think welles really creates something good with that.
Its like if the story within its story channels through multiple people which encapsulates how stories are told from one person to the next.
I wish it was just longer because this idea really could be bigger then it is.
Still good and finally, he is using colors.

anthony perkins performance really sells the character and the realm welles creates compliments it.

this plane of reality is not realistic yet not fully dream like.
we are transported into this nightmare world just like the character, symbolising the decade his own reality is facing because of this arrest.
he aimlessly walks around while meeting numerous people.
people, like its reality, not realistic but also not dream like.
the film reminds me of how macbeth looks but way better in that orson welles realises the space his character inhabit as in where macbeth sometimes felt like they reused the same set for multiple scenes.

i would say its welles best as anthony really does standout since i don't think he's ever worked before or after this one.

welles best noir thriller by far.

its world of corruption, lies and evil is fascinating in the film.
the cinematography, performances and costume design are great.
ultimately i haven't much to say besides that its really fucking good.

trier's cinematic languange doesn't smoothly translate when he transitions to an english feature.

the film shares allot in common with his last two films but with a lack of nuance.
i don't really know what i just watched. not in that its super terrible but the film feels so unclear over what to say or where to go.
again, the performances are great but there isn't much density to this one.

its fine, welles still gets great performances out of everyone but the characters feel underdeveloped.
it feels like there isn't a singular idea.
a lesser noir thriller of welles but its not bad.

this one didn't call me a slut.

oslo, august 31st is better then its predecessor but i find myself not being able to fully connect with its ideas.
its character and world struggles with uphill battles, from addiction to human bonds but not everyone he meets is interesting or their story.
also i find the slow pace to slow in certain scenes.
it does help you let everything sink in but also maybe lingers on certain things to long. the final 10 min are my favorite part as we see that after the day, he still loses. it really drives its ideas to home.

Absolutly ridiculous fish out of water story but what makes it work is that we to, are thrown into this world with no explanation, just like the white dude.

It makes for hillarious comedic moments through its light satire on chineese action films of the time while also just being a great action film with its crisp editing.
Yes its risky that a john carpenter, a white man, is directing but largely there isn't anything dated the way asian people here are portrayed (at least from what I know)
The performances are fun, i like Kurt Russell for acting Hella confused and everyone else just....doesn't react at all to everything strange going on, adding to the comedic flavor of the film.

Also the sets are great, you can definitly see and feel that they are sets but thats oke because it adds to the comedy and there are still sets that look real. From the palace to the streets, its filled with personality.
As I mentioned earlier, the editing is great, the film knows when to cut and when to hold onto a shot when its In action.

i could listen to them talking for hours.

sweet unlike scorsese's films.
its comforting, the interior of the place, furniture, its like your in the perfect grandpa and grandmother home.
its crazy but this should be one of the examples of how documentaries are important and fun.

it takes me back to when i was little everytime i went to my grandmothers home. she's gone now but all those memories are still with me.
now for scorsese's parents, they will forever live on in this and thats perfect.

the chemistry between all of the leads are great but it really doesn't do much for me.

i think everything is oke to good but characters like stevie's mom don't feel like actual characters. there is something the film tries to do with them but she never completes an arc or goes through one.

technically the 3rd acts car crash is like a literal crash of realization but is it? it also feels like some of the plotlines were cut short in favor of doing that.
there is allot more you could've gotten out of these characters but the film kinda does important stuf in the last 30 min and for the rest of the film its dicking around which is fun, it does show the abusive household stevie lives in.

the film kinda? deconstructs the nostalgia of the 90s and sees it for what it actual is.
its interesting for sure but its also riddled with montages with license music which after the 3rd felt like they were there to pat out the runtime.
its definitly a fun film but i would've liked a lot more from it.
it has so much passion but there is also a lot that hinders itself.
