I've never seen a noah bumbach film prior to this so I really don't know anything about him and for that it might why I think this more of a george Clooney film then a bumbach film. I mean its still is but the actual film feels more an expression of Clooney place in his career and life.
Especially that last 3 min.But it also feels like something important, it wears its message on its sleeves but I think ultimately it holds the film together.
We live with regret and guilt. Stubbornness sometimes fuels us but sometimes we have to learn to make up for our mistakes. Especially actors.
Im not generalizing here but I wouldn't say from allot of news we do have of actors and their kids...they aren't amazing.I mean you have your rick maronis's who quit acting all together to take care of their kids but largely put, walking the line between proffesion and personal stuff is hard.
Actors should learn to walk on that balance of both more often.

I actually think this is fun.
Is is written well? Fuck no but allot of the strengths of the first one are here while also adding some that weren't in the original.
The bullshit in the first movie is gone faster this time and I still love how the animatronics are real and not just cgi because it gives allot of weight to the characters.Emma Tammi is actually a competent director and cinematographer Lyn Moncrief does a pretty decent to good job. Ithink the performances are great, they can be corny but thats what you get when your in a movie about killer animatronics.
Like the film is not amazing but I can admit when a film is fun. From wayne knights gleefully mean performance to matthew patrick having like 4 lines and im not even sure if he played toy Bonnie or not, its fun.
Also the freddy plush did the "har, har, har, har" thing and I thought that was funny as shit.

Everything is so silent and shots are lingered on just enough to feel impactfull.
My only real problem is that I didn't like the characters as much as i wanted.
yeah i didn't thought much of it.
its narrative is not anything special and it kinda does whats expected of a film tackling drug addiction. matt dillon gives a great performance but thats also what holds this film together allong with the fact its shot pretty well.
eraserhead is easily lynch's best imo.
i love lynch's other work but something about eraserheads, performance, score, decore and craft is on another level.
its dead air feels more like an akward sense of dread and the performance, which, are brilliant help this dead air be even earier then it already is.
its themes are clear and displayed beautifully and terrifyingly. eraserhead is not just a film, its a piece of art that has and will always still stand the test of time.
Orson welles at his full capacity.
A semi biographical picture but also a piece that breaks and maybe even mocks auteur directing.
Its shot on film but I have never seen such a beautifull film in my life. Everything is so vibrant, so colorful and breathtaking.Its filmed mostly handheld but it gives a documentary quality to it and the score makes the editing feel organized instead of all over the place.
Welles seemingly creates a film thats spiratic, smooth but also all over the place all at the same time.
I couldn't be happier that of all people, netflix completed this because its easily one of my favorite films i've seen this year.Watch my films

its good and what i expect from welles shakespear adaptation but i also think its the lesser of the three i've seen.
containing allot of the strengths but i wasn't fully invested in every character tbh.
but the sets and locations are probably the best of the three, easily. they are beautiful.
its stylish in its editing and cinematography, often using lens flairs and fast editing but it builds a system that eventueel corners itself because the characters don't matter so nothing really matters.
the twist? why should i care?
the magic tricks? why should i care?
larry fong does great work im not suprised.the performances are fine, i like mark ruffalo but performances like that of jessie eisenberg or woody harrelson are annoying and mediocre.
its setpieces are cool but there is no weight and while its second hour finally has a more laid back editing style, that first hour is horrendous.
hold onto your shots more, pls.

Anyway, the wizard of Oz is expectantly great.
I see it as a film that blurs the line between child like fantasy and nightmare surrealism.
From the costumes, sets and characters like the flying apes and munchkins, the wizard of Oz still stands out today and you can definitly see why the film has such an impact on many but specifically also david lynch.Dorothy is thrust into an unknown world and that world is magical but also feels off. Everyone is nice but there is a disturbing quality to it.
Characters like glinda are especially a mix of both which is weird to say for someone dressed in pink.
It also definitely has something to do with the sets which sometimes look like actual locations and sometimes you can see what is a wall of the set which looks painted.
These kinda things make the film look as good as it does and it adds to the character of oz.Judy garland gives a great performance and so does the rest of the cast which is also significantly helped by the great costume design which sometimes adds visual jokes that couldn't be possible if they were standard looking humans.
Like the scarecrow being composed of straw and his body being torn apart by the flying monkeys, only for the tin man and lion trying to put him back together gave me chuckles.Watch my films

its one of those disney movies i watched allot as a kid but looking back, i have no nostalgia for this movie because it kinda falls apart everytime it gets fun.
some of the dialogue in the first half is on the nose or just cringe and we lets be honest, this movie didn't age well. it didn't really stand the test of time, it tells us that anyone can become a cop and that cops are good which....no.
its a movie for kids, yes but it also tries to tackle racism and such and its not that good. i really think nick should've never become a cop.
its sadly one of those movies that romanticizes cops when some of the worst people who've ever lived on this planet are cops.watch my films

Really doesn't know what to do with itself and so that means allot of it is one the shoulder of Cynthia's performance(which is great)
It doesn't know if it wants to tackle the political climate hanging around oz or when to shift focus at all. It doesn't know how to balance everything it wants to do and so it doesn't do almost anything right.
Characters are bland and shift on a dime which leads to a bigger issue itself, oz and its people.
We never get to see the people of oz and their perspective on the whole story, they just shift opinion when the plot demands them to.Why do all of these people hate animals and then on a whim just likes them again in the end?
The movie isn't interested in exploring the political topics but it still includes and presents them like im suppose to care. The main characters are somewhat an extension of that problem.
Im gonna call that ginger fuck spongebob since he played him in the musical.
Anyway, spongebob appears a little in the beginning before he dips out nearly the entire movie before appearing a little bit near the end.His conflict is so over the top and ridiculous, did he forget nessa basically made a racist law because he didn't wanna be with her?
I don't think im supposed to like nessa but it does feel like the writers didn't know what to do with her before smacking a house onto her.
Which kinda sucks because the performance was good.Speaking of performances, half the cast is good and half the cast kinda sucks.
I love michelle in other movies but she doesn't know what she's doing and just does the most basic line delivery of all time. Ariana grande isn't terrible per say but after she cries in the exact same way for the 11th time im gonna see some cracks.
Cynthia is great of course, she holds the movie together somewhat even when the writing of her character faces the same issues allot of the other ones have.
Jonathan Bailey and Jeff goldblum were fine but they weren't that impactfull with their performances and their characters felt kinda lame.The costume design, set design and makeup are all fantastic.
This world is inherently magically even if the droopy and unsaturated the cinematography is.
John M.chu for a lack of a better term also feels like he doesn't know what he actually is doing.
Like the first film allot of the lighting feels off. Or a scene is to much light or a scene feels like its afraid of using heavy lighting.
Also his direction is clearly very weak in this, more so then part one.Also having this be set inbetween the story of the wizard of Oz is a neat idea but it leaves character like the cowardly lion in the scenes he's in before he joins Dorothy, feel so weird.
Like is this really the reason you dislike the witch?The score and music is good but it does lean into that repetitive nature allot of musicals have where the music is catchy and good but there is no variety in the songs so they blend in even if they are good.
I think its fun to finally watch a musical in theaters but we can do better then this.Watch my films
