funnily enough welles best film so far.
the sets kinda blend together, especially with the film being in black and white but the dialogue, performances and it just being a really good telling of the original story.

really dug this.
a mysterious, romantical crime thriller that gives its character desires that can only be fullfilled by murder.
its fun, the performances are really good.

it does have that quiet sadness i love but it also does feel a bit to simple for its own good.
everyone's performance is great, the score and cinematography are excellent but i feel that there is something missing that could've made this a masterpiece in my eyes.
even then, this movie does not deserve to rot away on netflix.
its a deep shame because its a beautifull film.
maybe not one i love to the max but it is something so deeply pasionate about itself.watch my films

don't get me wrong, its actually not that bad.
it has allot of great building of tension, some good lighting, cinematography and a good lead performance but the film takes gleefull joy in using allot of cliché's found in all corners of the horror genre.
i do think its 3rd act is somewhat cool and inspiring for a directiorial debute and overall the film is decent FOR a debute but its also not allot besides that.
keith david is in a scene which was cool. some of its practical effects are cool to see and its mixing of found footage paranomal horror and straight up paranormal horror is fun.
i hope next time tho that more people can say that they, unironically, got stuckmannsized.watch my films

did not really like it, was bored with it for most of its runtime and while orson's tragedy from citizen kane slightly creeps in, in this one, its still feels so hollow.
i don't find anything that interesting to watch or listen to.
it goes in one ear and out the other.
it still has good performances and great direction but the script and story was not that good.
Gooner
One of the most famous films from classic hollywood.
Orson welles direction remains tall after all these years.
The film is a tale of a man transported away from his childhood home to live in the rich city.
I think the film handles the titular character really well, his life wasn't amazingly tragic, his personality becomes allot sour over time.
Marriages fall apart. Its not as smart as i expected from a film that is considered one of the greats but the film is still a pretty good character study.

i think art can be seperated from the artist but there always something fishy about the messages conveyed in that piece of art when in the real world, they believe or do things that go against it.
hardcore is one of the many films that tries to discuss the dangers of the world of porn films and the many explotations in said world but its kinda tame. in fact i would say it doesn't critique it well.
now you don't have to b the most explicitely violent or nudist to be good but i didn't think the film was trying to say something smart about its ideas nor its characters.george c.scott gives a great performance but outside of that all of these characters feel extremely one dimensional, there are no layers, there are no hidden truths underneath anyone.
the film is shot pretty well but for something that tackles such a gross subject, it looks to clean.
kristen, the daughter of jake the film is kicked in motion by is a fine critique on how the porn industry exploits young girls but it really is damaged by the fact we only have 1 single scene of her.
we don't really know anything about her before hand and so she feels more like the end goal for the film then an actual person.
sex work and making porn films are somewhat similaire.i think sex work is oke and people shouldn't be looked down upon it.
sex work is sometimes just people's ordinary jobs and thats oke.
they are people like you and me and so they should be handled with care and like actual people instead of objects.
im more so critiqueing the notion of snuff films.this is such a weird film for schrader to make because we've learned a few things about him and it feels like he made this with headphones on with the volume to the max because there is something to be said about the possibile disconnect between art and the artist and how they look at their own work.
i thought the same way about paul thomas anderson and one battle after another.
do we as artists know what we make and direct?
do we recognize the implication and impact our work, actions and words have on one another?watch my films

kinda amazing???
while we don't have many scenes focusing on deniro's portrayal of al capone, his presence and power is always felt.
how depalma is able to create tension here is imacculate and exciting.
the movie gives us a false sense of security with the main four characters until it backstabs you and shows how the film actually operates.stephen H.burum gives the camera a great sense of character in how it always seem to move closer and closer to its characters, to the point of having multiple pov shots.

robocop is a great science fiction story about corruption and the abuse of corporate power.
paul verhoeven's direction is great and while i don't think the criminal aspect and criminal characters are interesting themselves, they help the greater evil be more developed.

Not entirely for me but this still makes me interested in Goddard.
How it was made is important in how the film operates and how it kinda goes from scene to scene.
It adds a day to day, moment to moment quality to the film.
But it doesn't give me allot to chew on in terms of characters. The performances are great but the dialogue throughout the film, while cool and paints a picture....its just not enough.
I do see allot of similarities between Goddard, this film and how i made my first short film as I also made up parts as I went allong.Watch my films https://boxd.it/bAMBX3
