With exception to Vincent Price, this film was horribly miscast, and where it needed the budget, they made the weird decision to NOT use it. The visual FX could use a LOT of work. The Albatross itself looks pretty good, but the terrible blue screen and stock footage just throws you out of the world. (And what is with the song at the end?!)
I liked this book when it came out, and it turns out I am NOT into this movie.
I love Saoirse as much as the next person, and she is super talented, but her execution of Susie watching over her family was super weird, and I didn't like it. Actually I didn't like anything except the performances of the cast. Everyone did a great job in this movie that I do not like.
And the ending for the killer?! What the hell was that?
It takes a bit to really get rolling, and then it's so good. What a fun watch.
Not as funny as you'd expect from a Rose Byrne/Conan collab, but I was into it. I see a lot of reviews saying they liked it but would never watch it again. I'd watch it again. Maybe not the hamster part. That was the world's scariest looking hamster.
With a slew of body horror films coming out within the past few years (<I>The Substance</i>, <I>Grafted</i>, <I>Shell</i>, and <I>Thinestra</i>), <I>Slanted</i> takes a different approach. Instead of weight-related issues, this one deals with race, and it's an interesting look at how that and other factors, including social media, affect people who want to live in a different skin.
Both Mckenna Grace and Shirley Chen gave great performances. The transformations, from-to and to-from, were fantastic, and each character showcased their acceptance as they "climbed the ladder", but also their respective downfalls.
<I>Slanted</i> is a must-watch. With so many young people living vicariously through others online, an unhealthy obsession for most, I look forward to seeing more films this.
Really intense and edge of your seat, until the last 5 minutes, maybe appropriately.
Cash is a real piece of work in this. Down right scary, which feels odd. Can’t imagine this film helped record sales. LOL
Fine for a one time watch, if only because Timothy Olyphant is in it. The bones of the story are solid, but I think it rushed through the townspeople getting infected.
Much different, much weirder, and much better than I was expecting. I just wish they had included a track from Lily Allen's 'West End Girl' into the mix. Just one, for funsies.

I'm all for a bad action movie. I like the Mortal Kombat movie from 1995! This just doesn't do it for me though. There are some things I like (Kano, Subzero, Scorpion), but overall I just don't like the actual story. There are so many MK characters; it's wild to center the movie on an original character.
Brendan Gleeson is funny in the way people are funny in real life, but then you try to explain to someone how that person is so funny and you say things they've said, but the person you're talking to just doesn't get it because you had to be there.
