This is really great. It opens with a 7 minute montage/mashup of musical performances (available for free on YouTube if you don't have Peacock) that would get five stars from me on its own. It is so well balanced every way that I wanted it to be: across genres, through each era, musical guests versus musical sketches. Even the interview participants represent crew members, cast members, and musical guests over the years. I would buy this on Blu-ray if they'd let me.

Maybe it wasn't so bad that I wasn't invited to any family functions in college.
I see a lot of reviews comparing Shiva Baby to Uncut Gems. I can see why people are drawing that comparison, but it didn't occur to me at all while I watched. Maybe it's because that stressed, claustrophobic panic is just how girls feel sometimes. Either way, I felt the gut punch of the guy being married to Dianna Agron to my core. As if it wasn't going badly enough for Dani in that moment, it's Dianna Agron?! Whew.
This is my first Miyazaki film. He has been a blind spot for me, so I'm working through his filmography this year (along with the rest of the #brosephmovieclub on Bluesky 😉).
I'm shocked this is from 1979. I haven't watched any other anime, so I don't have a barometer for comparison, but it doesn't feel that old. It was very charming, and the scenery animation was pretty. I liked that Wolf (Lupin?) was a dorky scoundrel; that was fun. The Inspector had a few lines that made me laugh out loud, especially the scene with exposing the counterfeit operation on the news.
I did think it would be cuter, but maybe that's later in the filmography.
Action film that goes much to long without much action.
Chekov’s Robo-McGuffin should have been dropped altogether.
I'm generally a Jack Nicholson casual, so this may not be accurate, but is this the most fun he has ever had filming a movie? He just really seems happy doing those dances, and it made me happy too.

Favorite (Not Necessarily Best) Four From Every Year Since Birth
Well, that was awful.
It has more in common with something like Jupiter Ascending than Star Trek in look & feel.
It insults the viewers intelligence. Everything is SO DAMN OBVIOUS but they actually explain everything anyway like we’d all sit here and go, “Oh! That’s how it happened?! That’s who did it!” It is not that clever.
If you haven’t watched it, save yourself the time. Dial up a favorite TNG episode and forget this is a thing.
I loved the episodes about the auditions and the writers room. They were interesting, with a great balance of fun clips and relevant interviews.
Then the other two episodes were meh. I like the cowbell sketch, but a full episode about it when there are only four episodes is not necessary. They interviewed a guy from the cowbell manufacturer!!!!?? Really?! An episode about the most iconic sketches in general would have made a lot more sense when there are only four total.
The last episode about season 11 was fine, but again, it had no business being 25% of this runtime. This one would have been better served maybe as the history of Weekend Update.
Anyway, two winners and two okay-ers.
I always thought Ratatouille was underrated, but now that I'm looking at it's ratings curve on here, I guess it isn't. I do think it's weird the tagline on its listing is "HE'S DYING TO BECOME A CHEF." I don't love the word choice of "DYING."

I like Gerald Butler, but I was just super bored. The little twist at the end was a nice touch though.
After gambling away his grandma's retirement fund, Dane Cook's character is an unambitious stockboy... until he meets Jessica Simpson's character... whose employee file says she likes to sleep with the employee of the month????? Her employee file says that???
I don't think a high school adaptation of Othello is necessarily the right call. It probably should have been college at the youngest, and they could have even kept the same cast. It dances in that same realm as Cruel Intentions where I think aging it up makes it a little better.
That aside, I just really love Josh Hartnett. I love the whole cast, but I REALLY love Josh Hartnett even with that haircut.
Damn fun time!
