Edward Norton is just so crazy good, and the ending is perfect. Twist endings can lose impact on rewatches, but Edward Norton is SO good that this one holds up even after all these years.
I root for Laura Linney the whole time though, because it's Laura Linney.
I didn't expect this to be better than the first, so I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this. The acting and conversation feels so natural that if you told me they were really together while filming I wouldn't even Google you to fact check.

I didn't intend on watching this again, especially so soon, but my husband hadn't seen it yet so here I am.
It's so conflicting because I really do think the story and the performances are great. The slow motion and the music is just SO distracting. If that was dialed down a notch (okay a few notches), I would love it.
Not quite as good as the prequel limited series. A bit of a slow start, and the new characters took time away from the ones that had been established in the movie or in the prequel series. The jokes still land though, as long as you enjoy this comedy style. I do, so hooray!
Released 40 years ago, <i>Ghoulies</i> is one of those films (and franchises) that's so good yet so bad (<I>Ghoulies II</i> isn't that bad, though), you have to watch from beginning to end.
The film is full of typical horror film elements from the 80s: The outfits, dialog, and alcohol and drug use - all typical cheesy horror film add-ons that enhance the film's viewing rather than drown it into oblivion. Unfortunately, the special effects won't win any medals as the creature puppets and make-up are not utilized to their full potential, just for minimal shlock factor. The creatures, one of which is present on the film's poster, make <B>very small</b> appearances throughout the film (maybe a total of 3-5 minutes) and are used more like a ploy to get people interested in the series. It works, but their roles are upgraded as the series goes on.
<B>Final thoughts:</b>
Not the best start to the <I>Ghoulies</i> film series, but a worthy investment if you want to kill 1.5 hours. <I>Ghoulies II</i>, however, is a lot more fun and cheesy, so maybe start there...<B>Viewing experience</b>
Thanks to LG OLED's Perfect Black feature, we enjoyed <I>Ghoulies</i> on the small (big) screen, allowing us to escape into the film's dark-ish atmosphere and castle-like setting.
The first half is a pretty standard origin story, just with the personality removed. Nothing especially good or bad. Just things happening.
It just doesn't have the charm of other origin stories. They're supposed to be teenagers. I don't get any of that from it; I only know because Reed participates in high school science fair. Either way, once the Doctor Doom stuff happens, it goes from "this is fine I guess" to "eh maybe not so much."

It's just a bit much. I can get down with a Love Actually everyone-is-intertwined plot, but it's pretty wild how almost every character (and there are a lot of characters) defaults to immediate racism in every interaction.
I liked every scene with Michael Peña though.

My opinion of this improves every time I watch it. This is really one of the best of the “B’s”!
Most of the acting is pretty solid, and it has a great little mix of the serious and the absurd that makes it a fun drive-in style B-movie.
I like Jason Statham and Amy Smart. This would probably have been a fun theater movie, and maybe I saw it in the theaters which is why I thought I liked it more than I actually like it.

I'm going to keep this generic. This is a super fun time, and at least one cameo was genuinely shocking. The cameos aren't fleeting; they get enough time to prevent it from feeling like a fan service parade. (There is fan service though, of course. Come on.) I would have watched this way sooner if I knew Josh Hartnett was in it and a little soone if I knew Olivia Thirlby was in it.
The first two hours were pretty boring. I know this is everyone's favorite thing ever, and I can see why; it's just not for me. The last hour was more interesting, from the test bomb through the end. Emily Blunt's interrogation scene was good. Ultimately I'll just never watch it again.
