hillarious that james wan out of every director walked out of a test screening(or at least, this is only a rumor probably) but if he did, then he should sit down since this is better then anything he's made.
while i do think focusing on a mixed family while it takes place and is rooted in arabic text and land because god forbid we need the audience to have a white character, its still a great film about trauma that breaks family and the sacrifices that natural come its way to us.
jack reynor is the only FINE performance, everyone else is great, especially laia costa. its a way meaner but also a more effective take on a classic monster. i had that problem with the wolf man from last year.the cinematography is great, i love how many split diopter and close up shots there are which amplifies the terror.
the editing is fast and frantic and lingering when it needs to be.

a film that makes the history of the amistad case in hollywood smaltz, its also just boring as fuck.
at one point we were discussing how mcaughney looks like napoleon dynamite in this and how much time we still had left with this film.

the goat.the direction is steral and cold, it knows that these people have been universally abandoned yet despite that they have dreams but the world doesn't let them have them and shatters those dreams.
its a really good film, if it was just a film about the aimless youth culture, it would've been slightly boring and a retread of other films but fruit chan delivers a film that intertwines that with the loneliness of abandonment and hate towards the world.(watch my feature film https://boxd.it/dNvKo1 )

its found footage aspect is great and it leads to some genuine scares but largely i found the film boring in its characters.
it just feels like its on autopilot just so that scary shit can happen.

decision, decision, decisions.
exit 8 is probably the best film i've seen this year, its a film that limitates us and forces us to examine every little detail and how significant they truly are. every choice we make matters and when we end up making the wrong one we gradually become stuck in an endless cycle of our own making.
i haven't played the game but this is probably one of the best video game adaptations i've ever seen. im happy it broke my streak of bad luck in theaters.
