it has good intentions ig.
it does TRY to have a slight idea on assault on women yet it never really commits to the idea. some fine performances and cinematography but really what makes it so bad is that it feels very empty despite to somewhat clear ideas present. its just that the screenplay and direction feels lazy and as passible as possible for such a flick.

there is some decent direction here as well as some decent performances but the script is lazy, it kinda does the whole cliché of the protecting the kid.
in the end, it did what i expected as one woman and the kid survives which really just bugs me as it doesn't have anything to say and it just digs a deeper hole filled with more cliché featured in the zombie genre.

it didn't have a lot to say that we already don't know about godzilla or his mythos so it kinda feels like an entry that is skippable at best.

mid90s was not the best film ever but at least it was competent.
THIS is just a project about actors getting cancelt these days(which really isn't the case a lot of times as they bounce back in a few years) but it also wants to comment on hollywood, pr teams and ever evolving celebrity culture but it won't shut the fuck up and take a breath with its 1 hour and like 17 min without the credits.

anyway, while i thought i was getting into a film about isolation due to its location, i instead got a mediocre mystery movie.

a barage of emotional, sexual and physical assault.
everyone is trying to out play eachother but as the battlefield runs out, it becomes clear who's winning.the celebration directed by thomas vinderberg is digital film making at its absolute peak, a film thats about the deep secrets, denial and truth hidden away by family. more so, the film excplicitly makes clear that while the father is in this story the most despicable one here, the film isn't cowardly enough to make a lot of the other members pieces of shit. it also clearly displays how parental figures use powerplays as a method to shut their offsprings off which is to use parts of your childhood to make people decisions in the head so that you'll be seen as 1 individual thing and nothing else.
micheal is in the first stages to cheat on his wife, he beats woman and he to is part of the collective family members to shut christian up but once that masterful scene of helene reading that letter, the tables change. its not enough anymore to tell childhood stories to shut disccusion down.
"your killing me" i quote from the father, is a clear reach into the entitlement of the nature of family. the father tries to cut into the emotions of his children, but it doesn't work anymore. parental figure and by extension, cousins, aunts and uncles expect to get a moral high ground from you because they are family which, we do need to have real future discussions about.
what makes the performances all great is that you can see from facial expression to facial expression that there is always a hint of hatred underneath the surface. the mother's speech tries to be complimentary but obviously is just a ploy to make fun of her children.
once we enter this huge castle like building, we rarely leave and even when we do, its never far enough to feel like there is a path of escapism which is complimented by the digital film making present.
digital film making as a concept, as a culture is something cinephiles see as lesser and not as good as shooting on film, while with parts i do agree, we need to go back to using early digital camera's again because the cinematography in the celebration is something to be studied as its beautifull and its lighting and shadows.
the digital antidote may lie in handycams. resolution is overrated.
the camera is never still for more then 10 seconds and even when it is still, the images are sometimes bulged or distorted. the film's tension is thick because of the cinematography, its thick because of the performances and it is thick because the style of film making.an all timer.

simplistic and effective.
its last shot is pretty much indicative of the whole film as antonio and his son dissapear into the crowd, its not subtle yet it is effective.
bicycle thieves is a film about 1940s italy shrouded in darkniss by a system that punishes whoever it can yet sometimes can reward others at the cost of others, creating a deep cycle of fake rewards that can give individuals dopamines to do it again while others get caught and get publically shamed. as anontio's paranoia creeps in, he increasingely becomes fixated on getting his bike which ultimately leads to his final act.also currently listening to trans x cis yuri rivals making out session.

pretty much what i expected.
a film which has a screenplay with misogyny, fetishization of woman and the overall looming fact that the work its based on ultimately make fennel's style work less then it already does.
i would say im not someone who thinks an adaptation should be faithfull but fennel doesn't apparentely doesn't get this story yet tries to form it into a raunchy romanticization of degradation.as much as it tries to whitewash heathcliff, its allegory on racism won't go away. and again, fennel apparently doesn't read her scripts as there is a lot of misogyny that never gets adressed. most of these characters are flat as cardboad which includes heathcliff and catherine.
the performance are as equally dumb as the writing. if you give me a serious performance with dialogue like that(the performances aren't good even with different dialogue) then its hard for me to get invested or take it seriously.a directorn who herself and her work are to self aware made for other as non self aware white people.

A tricky film because the film making and cinematography are great but I felt the film overall was lacking on character and its writing.
The film is obviously about imprisonment and its nature to not have any progress matter in rehabilitation but most of these characters had almost nothing to rehabilitate about nor Caspar all that much. Maybe I just don't get it but the cinematography and performances are all great. I was a bit confused by the camera placements in the first hour since we mostly spent time in a cell yet the cell weirdly feels like it seems to grow and shrink due to the camera placement sometimes.

its screenplay maybe is not that good but the actors are giving it all which translates into the charming relationship between yuji and io.
i almost dropped a tear when they were reunited when yuji seemingly died.godzilla's design is probably my favorite so far as...idk it just feels right to me. the last lines are probably the most spoonfeeding lines in the entire franchise, godzilla 2000s feels like a mix between late showa era kajiu films and heisei era godzilla so what you think of the film depends on what you think about that mix.

history buffs have torn this one to shreds yet i think no movie should hold true to what happened despite if its a biopic.
largely, napoleon uses the titular man as a way of looking into the 1700s-1800s and the surrounding political nature of history. to be honest, history doesn't really compell me a lot, usually because a lot of whats present glorifies the past when in reality it actually fucking sucked.
that may go against my previous statement BUT i think if you use a new context to show the errors in history then i think it has something meaningfull to say.i watched the directors cut of 3 hours and 24 min long and its a grand epic but also its not, the film is rather a film about the larger nature of idiotic men in power. its not deep in a sense but ridley scott and cinematographer dariusz wolski create such beautifull digital images that give everything a big scope. napoleon is rewarded for doing almost nothing which is mostly in his favore until it doesn't.
we are doomed to repeat this cycle but every time we do catch on but most of the time its way to late and damage has already been done.the film is a critique on history but also modern times in terms of leaders and leadership. i do think any character that isn't napoleon isn't anything noteworthy and are just there to fill his story, even vanessa kirby who gives a good performance feels underwritten aside from having a few scenes which i really like. kirby and the script do work well in a specific scene where domination is her game and she plays it well. she knows napoleon's weaknesses and uses that to her advantages.
napoleon does have some cliché's but im kinda dumbfounded by the reception. not ridley's best film but a really good one nonetheless.

a creature that, after years of suffering and restlesness like japan, it finally gets to allowed to die or in a sense be reborn.
at first, i thought of why the film was so highly rated among godzilla fans but then thinking about and reading some reviews, it makes much more sense why as godzilla in this, represents japan and godzilla's nuclear existence much more then any other film in the franchise that isn't the original. in that sense, people with past connections being introduced makes sense as the past is finally allowed to rest, not to be forgotten but to be laid to rest.
