doppelganger is kiyoshi's most comedic feature up until this point in his career, it still retains his trademarks i've come to love about him allong koji yakusho giving yet another great performance.
the doppelganger is first seen as this weird seperate entity but of course, it is not as he's more a representation of michio's personality, his more repulsive tendencies reside in this clone.
the idea works very well and while the film is not laugh out loud funny, it still has its fair share of laughs.(also watch my newest film https://boxd.it/XnDi )

"Just think, chucky's gonna be a bro"
An excellent monster film.
James whale seems to be the goat when it comes to universal monster films.The titular invisible man is such a sympathetic character, his condition is somewhat his own fault but he's driven to madness by other people and the chemicals he used in his experiment.

Something I've always admired about this franchise is how they manage to keep the same level of quality with each new installement.
Don't get me wrong, childs play 3 exists but thats still just an alright film from what I remember.Childs play 2 gives us more chucky but I think they luckily did restrain themselves from going full out.
Andy and Kyle are just as sweet as Andy and his mother were.
I don't think the cinematography is as good as the first one. The designs of the locations features in the film are allot more colorful then before due to the larger presence of not only the house Andy stays at but also the company that produces good guy dolls.Its kinda hillarious that in both this and 3, chucky comes back alive because this greedy ceo wants his toy doll to make money.

the score is pretty good but ultimately steve tries, like the titular character himself, juggle allot of characters and things in a time limit which ultimately doesn't fully work.
there is allot of charm and good things in this film but i wanted to know more of these people. cillian murphy's performance is really good, aswell as for everyone else, the person playing shy is really great specifically.
steve is still good but it suffers from having allot less runtime then it should've had.

Its for sure a weird film.
It pokes fun at people from both sides.
There is allot of things that could go wrong when making a film such as this and I think not all of it went wrong but does confuse me sometimes.
Ari aster is sometimes over his head and some of the commentary is a bit shallow, the usage of phones is one of the more smaller satire bits in the film and honestly sometimes it worked but also most of the time it was in boomer "phone bad" territory.
Social media does impact our lives and how we act but its done in such a shallow way most of the time that I don't really think its all that great.
Like let's be for real, most kids now would not record shit while trying to shoot someone.Actually, that's a monkey paws thing because imo with phones now you could have more evidence then ever, its just that some people record things like local fist fights.....thats just dumb.
There is something of a critique with social media and adults but I thought it was kinda shafted most of the time.The whole blm part was funny at first but it then drags on and kinda in your face.
The covid parts of the film are also very in your face, its not specifically bad but I also think aster writes it in such a way where it doesn't really go deep into both topics that isn't screaming in your face.The movie does show how the mind of a conservative in theory could work and how they dig themselves in a deeper and deeper hole and I think thats what the movie is the best in portraying.
Pedro pascal, Austin butler and a few more cast members felt strangely anti climatic to the point where it didn't feel like the film ultimately said anything when it comes to their portion of the story. There is something there its just that this thing tries to put as much political things in itself as much as possible.

What was my first actual real mature film?
I mean yeah I watched allot of films during my childhood but they mostly were the same films, around 50 and thats generous.
Mostly animated flicks.
But then one day I discovered the icon himself, chucky.
Technically THIS FRANCHISE was my exposure to more mature live action films. One that made me truly interested in film as a medium and for good reason.
Watching it today, with experience and having learned allot, it opened my eyes that not only are the characters still perfect as ever but the cinematography, art direction(specifically for the good guy dolls esthetic) and overall production value is very strong for a film made with a budget under 20 million in the 80s.Brad douriff is incredible as the slasher himself, in the bits we get of him at least. Catherine Hicks and Alex Vincent are genuinely so likeable its insane.
I also wanna applause the film for how genuinely terrifying it can in fact be.

almost perfect if wasn't for barry kheogan. im sorry but i did not like his performance here and i know he's irish but he sounds the most like he's trying to do an impression of irish people.
other then that this film was a perfect, i would say its somewhat of a slow burn. the script is sharp as fuck, maybe im just a sucker for how they talk in here but colin farrel is great allongside brendan gleeson.
the cinematography is good even when at times i think you could display allot more beautifull shots of the island.
ben davis was the cinematographer and his track record is not that great, he does have good looking films under his belt but he also has worked on allot of mcu slop.The doomed yaoi verse continues.

its interesting to see and hear how film and digital were/are used.
how digital is seemingly replacing film.now if digital is a beter format is not up to me BUT film should still be an alternative.
it should not go away because its just to different from digital to be let go off. digital and film both have their ups and downs but at the end its up to the film maker as to which one they are gonna use.
personal i use my phone to make footage so yes i am part of the digital film making space.
i do think filming digitally is easy but you also have to heavily alter the image until you get a good image, as with allot of films shot digitally nowadays, they don't look good at all.

it definitly scratches that itch of a feeling of being unwanted as a kid and just loneliness ingeneral.
i wouldn't really say antoine doesn't interact with allot of people but the expression on his face, how he speaks gives off a vibe. a vibe thats not clear but can be inteprete.
the film is very loose with its narrative, just overall being more concerned with telling the audience a compelling theme then a tight story but if a films theme is compelling, then imo the story is already pretty good.
im not in love with this film but i do recognize its importance and also even then, its still a good film.(also watch my newest film https://boxd.it/b9kZWJ )
