Monumental improvement in acting, use of locations and sets.
The acting is really good but kubrick still needs to learn how to write interesting characters or at least for me I found it very hard to connect with any of these people.It lacks focus on what it wants to say imo. Its a heist film but not really, it feels like a bit of a character study but I can't decide who's the main character because at least 4 or 5 characters are integral to the plot and its getting hard to invest when it jumps between characters pretty frequently.

I loved the story of a boxer struggling with his freakishly controlling family and his drug addicted brother.
Amy Addams plays a real character for once.
The cinematography is great, I love the parts where it emulates how a real boxing match is filmed.

i'll give kubrick some slack, like me, i didn't know anything about directing, editing or anyting of how films are actually made.
but like with my first film, im still critical.
i will say this has way better acting.

Suprisingly really well shot and executed.

licorice pizza is filled with w.s anderson's great film making but the story leaves allot to be desired.
the film starts off promising but it never gets interesting.
cooper hoffman and alana haim do have chemistry but the characters they inhabit are empty and get more empty the longer the film goes on.
the resolution is dissapointing. no i do not want these people to have a happy ending, i want them to face actual consequence for the action of persueing a pedophillic relationship.its like w.s anderson wrote this in order for us to see these heavily flawed characters but then make them seem likeable.
i don't get it, maybe i missed something.

paul w.s anderson crafts a web of struggle, a men so deep into his work that its basically a half of him but that other half yearns for love.
this man is a complicated man.
at first, he somewhat rejects her but later wants to and does marry her.
its such a weird film but it also makes sense at the same time.i preffer daniel day lewis in this to there will be blood.
he's so fucking amazing(still not as amazing as nicolas cage) in this.
vicky krieps plays this woman who yearns for his affection but has to deal with his personality aswell.

I was compelled to give this 3 and a half stars but there just isn't a big enough of a hook to earn that.
Its a film that's definitly to long and while i apreciate paul w.s Anderson for making long features......it does backfire with this one.

the master is a film about a "new religion" but said religion is more a means of manipulation.
we meet freddie, from what we know he's not completly sane.
joaquin pheonix sells the story of a man with a crazy and manic layer hidden and buried.
as you begin to realize, his mind becomes more and more believable insane the longer the film goes on.phillip seymour hoffman is great aswell, the whole cast is but i would be lying if i didn't say that while rami malek and amy adams are present, they don't get allot of time to shine.
they are part of the story but only because they need to fill this group.
they have lines but not much of anything else.
the film looks gorgeous with it being filmed almost entirely on 65mm.
overall while i think the master does have its issues, its still great.(also watch my newest film https://boxd.it/b8ku2r )
probably paul w.s andersons most rich and thematic film.
imo there has been allot of critically praised films that show the flaws and self destructive(and destuctive ingeneral) nature of capitalism.
but this one is special because it takes place in the early 1900s.
daniel plainview is a great construct that channels the worst sides of humans but, he still feels human.
allot of deeply realistic evil characters sometimes do go almost overboard in being cartoonishly evil but we get to spend time with daniel, enough so that we know who he is and why he is the way he is.daniel day lewis and paul dano are incredible, the cinematography is excellent and i really love the outfits worn.

boogie nights is a magnitude of an achievement for someone in their 20s.
i do not fuck with it as much as other people but i still think its crazy good.
mark wahlberg gives a great performance, everyone does but what holds this film together is its interesting deep dive into the world of adult films and how most of the times it ends up in shambles.
every actor gets at least one scene to shine but with that said i don't really care for some characters. like don cheadle, great performance but im utterly confused at his presence in the film.
its not a huge deal since his character and don cheadle himself still bounces off the cast very well but still.i don't think the film looks as gorgeous as hard eight but like, its hard(eight) to beat that films casino settings, filled to the brim with lights, neon signs and colors.
only real negative is that, no, i didn't wanna see mark wahlbergs fucking dick. fuck you paul w.s anderson. 0/10

A movie where Marlon Wayans plays this universes lebron.
There are some great usage of close ups/medium close ups and lighting.
The main performances are all great but the script leaves allot to be desired.
I don't think its as bad as other people suggest but I do recognize where those people come from.
This film is deeply unsubtle in its metaphors and while that's not always a bad thing, it does kinda reek of a film that needed just 1 more draft.
Also technically this is my 2,000 film I've watched.It was gonna be something else but whatever.
