Pretty light on new commentary but its ideas and things in this film are so fun and insane that I can't help but like it.
Also the final fight was really fucking good.
I will never get over those puppets tho, one time they'll look fine and then they'll look like the funniest shit ever.(Watch my feature film https://boxd.it/cQ1mBp )

didn't care much for the drama between the humans but the commentary on colonialism is really cool and interesting.
also mothra just looks cool idk.(watch my feature film https://boxd.it/cQ1mBp )
i like the running theme of evil bussines men being the real villains of the stories. i think at this point it can get repetitive but what the film adds is an extensive look at the enviromentalism of godzilla in a few ways.
like it or not but of course godzilla plays a part in the enviroment around him(or her) as its a monster created from radiation.

its cool to see minoru chaiki after seeing him in hidden fortress but thats it.
this film is dull in its repeated story and imagery but there some hints of it just being fun. godzilla and the other creature look more like handpuppets this time which....idk i thought it was funny and they watched bootleg godzilla films which is funny.

Not one of my favorite godard films but i still like his take on the indecisive nature of love and marriage.
Also it can be very charm and funny at points. Don't think godards style entirely works for this but its still not that bad. Also the film is obviously fiction because WE would go on a date with Anna Karina if she asked.

George sluizer's spoorloos is a slow burn that grips you.
Rex is a man who lost his fiance via kidnapping and can't let go. He grows paranoid over the years and is desperate to find out and when he gets that chance offered by the kidnapper himself Raymond lemorne and as he can't let go, he himself is then trapped and presumably killed.
Lemorne is a sociopath and like a lot of this decade, the 1980s was one full with serial killers and related outcry. The vanishing displays an idea that we maybe seek out those killers or rather we would want answers more then justice and what did justice mean for relatives of victims?

Ryan gosling and puppeteering are doing the heavy lifting.
Phil lord and Chris Miller(and Drew Goddard) lack to give any character any meaning besides saving billions yet I never felt like anything was at stake. Rocky has no personality, his design is cute and marketable.
The script is filled with half of the time lame jokes, drew Goddard never was the best with dialogue and really, grace is extremely 1 dimensional.
The reason why the film fails is due to its inherent use of high stakes but in order for us to care about those high stakes in a classic 3 act structured film, you have to make it personal which they don't.
Actually grace was put in space without his permission so that automatically creates a problem when I have to care about your characters.Back to rocky, rocky is cute but thats all he really is and frankly he has done his job already, the film uses emotional manipulation so that you think he's a character when all they want from you is to be sad because he is cute and has "funny" lines.
Thats the worst case with what you can do with such a character.
We should make aliens not cute Actually or at least just something other then cute or entirely monstrous.
The flashback scenes being intertwined with the space scenes adds nothing and you could've just done it in chronological order but then again that wouldn't be as interesting but it still wouldn't do anything substantial. The film is hopeful but that isn't specifically a great theme when you just.....present it. To be honest sci fi imo is a hard genre or at least astronaut films are a difficult thing to do good and I fear drew godardd just never was the right choice.
This is what the animation is cinema crowd would call prestige cinema.
Kendog will pay for this.(Watch my feature film boxd.it/cQ1mBp )
A sun is a 2 and a half hour drama that depicts a dysfunctional family slowly crumbling under traumatic events but the film also asks.....was it the trauma or was it always doomed to crumble in the first place?

A grand illusion is a film about the social construct and our relationships in it.
While its characters aren't the most interesting ones, the themes and how the film approaches them is interesting and there for the character are a bit better.

i wish agnes varda could've lived forever or at least for a few more years
While its pretty funny sometimes, hoppers lacks focus on both its cast and themes.
As a film about environmentalism its fine but I more so have issues with the cast. Jerry is the offender as he's kinda 1 dimensional and doesn't get a full 3 structured arc.
American animation needs more downer endings, of course they won't but it being a kids movie doesn't make it better. Yeah, tell kids that even evil and corporate bussines folk are actually good deep down inside.
As for the rest of the cast, they get good lines but they aren't in anyway memorable characteristically and George, like Jerry presents a flawed view on aspects of the world and the rest are forgettable.Mable is the only one with a distinctive personality yet the problem they present is her anger which im confused by.
Why is that her character arc when clearly in both societal structures, she is the one to get certain things done because of it.Maybe if you are making a kids film you should stick to appropriate themes for your kids movie.
