I've not seen the original candyman but Nia decosta and Jordan peele's ability to create this piece of horror, in its terror but also commentary is pretty cool.
Its not the most original commentary but there is a lot of interesting things here.
The way black people use art to spread messages and how basically black people are a scapegoat.

mark's directorial debute(i think) and im suprised at how he's able to use the camera even when the shaky cam in the third act becomes kinda unbearable,
its claustrophobic nature adds to how the film builds up suspense. im shocked this film has not typical jumpscare, it rather builds and builds its terrifying nature up. while this is based on a game so mark gets an obvious head start, that still doesn't entirely take away that youtubers to directors like chris stuckmann use typical jumpscares. i thought shelby oak's wasn't horrible but it also was really typical in its scares and horror.
the cinematography in this is genuinely really good.while its performances can feel hamfisted at times, it doesn't take away that mark and caroline kaplan give decent performances and while im not a big markiplier watcher, i never really thought "hey thats markiplier"
its characters are sometimes maybe to simple and its not able to crack open its mystery that well, its still got me intrigued.
maybe to simple but man i really love how it builds its horror up.

while there is SO MUCH FAT, that fat is kinda welcomed.
it somehow works as we get to know both main characters extremely well in the 2 plus hours we spend with them.the music is really fun as well, Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma give good performances and its a fun sci fi romance romp.

kinda insane how they got so much right on their first try.
my whole idea of james bond is all pretty much already here and while its misogynistic few on woman is heavily outdated, sean connery plays the titular 007 very slick and the cinematography is gorgeous as its sets and locations are vibrant give that vacation feel off.

when i watched testament of orpheus i was confused as to how these movies are a trilogy and while still not having watched the second film, watching this its becomes obviously more clear that jean cocteau presents a look into the making of art itself, this being the first film shows a poet through the cinematic languange which creates some great imagery.
the performances are excellent and feel in place with the tone, the movie doesn't have any traditional set of characters but the way it and the other film comment and conjur up the way we view art and how we can express that in different forms is so fascinating and lovely.

On rewatch, sure its still funny and some of its characters are fun to follow like James and of course the performance are still great and creggers camera moves really great in so many scenes...yet what was it going for thematically?
Its so all over the place because its not just some horror junkfood but it also doesn't have a clear idea of what it actually wants to say.
I think Amy Madigan being nominated for her performance is kinda funny because its good but not great.
Its narrative structure is neat but when half of its cast is kinda weak, you lose me. Its not terrible, its still able to be funny but also scary at certain times and james is my goat( Rest in peace🕊) but it all just feels aimless.(Also watch my new 79 min movie https://boxd.it/cQ1mBp )
i haven't seen any of ozu's films, maybe i should have but even without that knowledge, the passion of wim wenders is still seen in this visually pleasing documentary.
wenders struggles seeking what he wants to find but quickly learns that ozu's stories are still there, in tokyo because of the people who knew him.
the cinematography of this documentary is like eye candy, its breath taking and feels to immaculate. especially in night where it feels like when you are late out at night, later then you were suppose to.(watch my new 79 film https://boxd.it/10y7I )

its script is very stupid and half of its characters feel out of place in its story.
ralph fiennes, anna taylor joy and nicholas hoult give delightfull performances but the rest of the cast is just fine.
the cinematography is decent, not bad but nothing standout,
while some of its ideas are not really great or even fully formed, its just a fun dumb film thats just a joy to watch. dare i say i wouldn't mind rewatching this one at a party.also watch my new 79 min film

that feeling of getting more numb by the day, where it feels like everyday is just the same day where nothing feels right and where everything seems like it pushes against you.
where movies are the only thing keeping me alive and not suicidal.
where watching fantasy becomes the reality you want to escape in, where you feel more alive then whats supposedly home.and where making your own movies, your own fantasies, dreams, stories seems like the only way to escape the nightmare of day to day existence as a trans person. the perception of you once deemed closes to you begins to warp and spiral until they become unrecognizeable to who you once knew or they just were always like that but never saw their true self.
