there is a clear goal here. its starts off really well but it tries to juggle allot of characters. they all have good chemistry together, i really like how everyone speaks and the dialogue is really good.
viola davis is great aswell as her character but as for the other characters, i think the second lead is very cool but i think they could have done more with her.everyone gives a great performance tho and i think the story is cool even when its historically inacurrate. the costume design also is VERY strong.
i think what sets this apart from another historically inacurrate film like the greatest showman is that this film actual tries to tell something meaningfull while the greatest showman doesn't.
also the greatest showman doesn't have such an amazing cast.
at the end of the day i wished i loved this.(also watch my latest film https://boxd.it/aKMnNv )
Today is the last day of my summer vacation.
I was planning to go to theaters but I just wanna be at home today.
Anyway I watched this for like the 5th.
Still funny as fuck.
The production design, costumes, sets and enviroments all look amazing and the great cinematography which embraces the shiny-ness of the palace and the colors of the costumes, helps the film feel really like....A REAL PLACE.
It just sucks that the script is very mediocre.
It tries to reach for something with every character but everytime it almost gets there, it drops the ball and does nothing with them. Nicholas hoult is incredible wasted aswell as emma stone. Not in the performances as they are all pretty good but again, the writing gives them nothing to work with.Lanthimos is a skilled director but what irritates me about his style and direction, especially with his script is that allot of the times his films are just weird for the sake of weird. It sometimes can create interesting worlds, quirky-ness and weirdness is a thing you can build entire realities from inside of film but everytime lanthimos does that, it falls entirely flat because he forgets those realities also need to have people with strong personalities in them.
To be fair this is one of his more tame films.(Also watch my newest film My review of i love bottle caps on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/aKMnNv )
buster has such a magnetic screen presence like no other.
this is not busters best but its still has his unique charm and fun gags which is to say its still pretty good.

at least in honey, don't margarat qualley's voice is not annoying to listen to.
this and its new companion piece are ethan coen trying to find his missing piece and its funny because the two films have the exact opposite problems with a few similare ones in between.
the other has a pretty decent story and the other has a shitty one.
one has good cinematography and the other not so much(except for when it heavily uses lighting effects for some reason)drive away dolls has a pretty good performance from its lead(s) and the other only has like 1.
both still have lazy written characters. i still don't know what happened between the two coen brothers but get them back together and fast.
not to say ethan isn't a good solo director, he is but its clear he doesn't know what to do half the time BUT......i do hope he makes a third solo feature in this sort of cornetto/vengeance trillogy style films and prove me wrong.(also watch my newest film https://boxd.it/aKMnNv )
Thank god they dropped the annoying texas accent qualley did in drive away dolls.
Basically a plot strung together VERY loosely.
Basically its painted as a crime church thriller but thats only 1 of the bad elements.(Also watch my newest film My review of i love bottle caps on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/aKMnNv )
its kinda just oke but i would be lying if i said i wasn't a sucker for really old japanese films staged like this.

How can i not give this 5 stars?
Its hillarious.
this movie has no right to look as amazing as it does.
i think allot of people ignore or just don't wanna acknowledge how silly it is ON PURPOSE.
its basically a slightly more serious and complex tom and jerry episode while still being goofy as shit.it never was suppose to be very serious.
its dialogue is charmingly cheezy, josh harnett gives a killer performance and shaymalan's fingerprints are all over this.
im not saying its perfect, its not but its good at what it sets out to do and thats giving us josh harnett as a maniac trying to escape handcuffs in multiple fun ways.
cooper himself is genuinely an excellently written character and again, josh harnett plays him so well that i believe he could really fool all of these people, his line delivery is great.
Basically a glorified asmr video.
Bale channels his inner cage and thats the reason he comes the most close to being half as good as cage.
Jonathan Redmond and matt villa should never edit a film ever again.
im not suprised that the latter edited eden aswell which just like half of this film is just standardly edited and in such a boring way....i mean at least some of the editing choices here are funny for how bad they are.austin butler and the costumes are the saving grace of this film.
its just that years shitty oscar nominated biopic and thats it.
nothing about it directed that well and like you can't do allot with musical biopics but surely you can make something good right?
